Bluetooth issues

So far, I have had very unsatisfactory results trying to connect Bluetooth to either an ft5dr or an ftm 6000 with the BU4 installed.

I am trying with Infinitive Sound earbuds. This is an inexpensive set of earbuds that work with my iPhone. I have also tried the U-Connect in my Jeep, and an Altec Bluetooth speaker.

I was able to get the ft5 to pair and connect with the Infinitive earbuds but no audio when I opened the squelch. Though I could get the ftm6000 to list the earbuds and Jeep, it would not pair or connect. Been through the steps in the manuals several times, but no success.

Questions

Has anyone successfully paired/connected anything besides the bt-10 with the ft5dr and/or ftm6000 that they are happy with?

Are there any satisfied bt10 users out there? I have some hearing issues that would probably make the bt10 issues worse. Besides, I previously tried that type device with my cell phone and it did not work well for me.

And finally, could someone please post a step-by-step with what worked for you.

Thanks Jerry. Those look nice for in shack service, but I was looking for something more mobile friendly that covers one ear only. I have since tried pairing with an earbud set that I got from Walgreens and a Bluetooth speaker. No joy, either on the 6000 or con my ftf5. I can see the device, but pairing is unsuccessful. Both are apparently working, I can pair with my iPhone.

I'm using the Plantronics Focus....not cheap but is interfacing fine with my FTM-6000.

Yep, that is one solution. And for now it is wise not to use the Squelch Off button. But Yaesu decided to put a "Squelch Off" function under the P1 button on the mic. And I have not found a way to switch Squelch back on with some button or menu function. The Squelch/back button will show the 0 to whatever numbers, but they do not switch Squelch back on. Is this perhaps a bug?

I usually just press the squelch button on the right and adjust with the knob right under it. 0 to whatever I want.

I pushed the P1 button to turn the squelch off. I then found that I could not switch the squelch back on. No such button, and the Squelch/back button would only let me change levels but not turn the squelch back on. The manuals did not reveal how to turn squelch back on. I switched the radio off and then back on: squelch was back on.
Question: is there a better way to switch the squelch back on?

So I got the adapter and installed it, with the idea to pair it with the U-Connect hands free in my Jeep. If anyone has done this and gotten it to work, I’d appreciate your advice. I see the U-Connect, but pairing is unsuccessful.
Since plan A did no go well, onto plan B. I’d appreciate comments on reasonably priced Bluetooth headsets. I know there are many to choose from, but if anyone has one they particularly like, I’d appreciate hearing about it. And if there is no that someone has had a bad experience with, I’d like to hear how that went also.

Hi folks, I acquired an FTM-6000 a few weeks back and ordered the RT Systems software for it.

I like to use my VHF/UHF rigs as a scanner for ham/railroad/marine frequencies.

After having entered a few frequencies manually when first unboxing the rig, I turned the rig off, then connected the RTS USB cable to the rig and attempted to invoke the Clone feature as directed.

The rig came up with CLONE on the display, but try as I might I could not get to the CLONE RX or TX display to commence communication with the computer (a Mac).

I called RT Systems who suggested I needed to take the rig in for service. Not being happy with that response as the radio seemed to be working fine otherwise, I puzzled over the issue for a bit.

I disconnected the USB cable, turned on the rig to find I had left it in Memory Scan mode. I keyed the mic to stop the scan, then tried the sync process again with the USB cable installed.

It worked! The documentation for the FTM-6000 does not document this situation, nor does the RT Systems manual. I called RT Systems back to let them know in case anyone else runs into this issue.

I hope this helps someone.

Where is the POWER lock SWITCH per the manual. I dont see any SWITCH with lock icon on mic or radio??

Yes, the operating manual, Page 3 states:

1. Press the Power (Lock) switch, "LOCK" is shown on the display for one second, and then the keys and DIAL knob are locked.

2. Press the POWER (Lock) switch again "UNLOCK" is shown on the display and the keys and the DIAL knob are unlocked.

The PTT switch and the VOL knob cannot be locked.

Hello- Bought a new FTM-6000. Found that almost anything I try to do with the unit the display shows “lock��. Looked in both manuals and can’t find a reference to a lock function on the mic or other controls. Tried to do a reset to factory default but get “lock�� again when I press the dial to select all.rst. So it’s almost a brick. Am I missing something? Suggestions? Thanks, Jim

Bluetooth adapter

Looking for someone who has experience with the BU-4 Bluetooth adapter, either with the Yaesu headset or with third party headset. I have seen a one or two reviews of the headset, which weren’t very good, but no reviews on the Bluetooth adapter. At $45 plus another $15 to ship, I’d like to have an idea how well it works. My hearing isn’t so good anymore, especially when there is a lot of road noise. I’m thinking a decent Bluetooth headset might help.

I have used the RT Systems software and cables for: FT-897, FT-70, FT-3, and FT-6000, and never experienced any issues with drivers or even had to think about the chips or drivers. Load the software, plug in the cable and it works. I have also never heard of any one that had any problems with RT-Systems cables. That is kinda the reason for using them.

Yes routing power can be challenging on most recent vehicles. Good luck with it.

as Jerry said, NIB=new in box. Bought from individual instead of vendor. He got it as a present, decided to sell it instead of using it b/c it didn’t fit where he wanted to put it in his truck.

I’m trying to avoid the Yaesu and RT Systems cables as they are based on the Prolific chip. That chip has been problematic from the get-go. The FTDI chips “just work�� with no special driver installation required.

The biggest issue has been the 10 pin mini DIN connector. So far, the closest I have found is the direct-tv video cable described on this reflector. Got one, made the mods suggested, and established communication. I’m trying the ADMS-13 from Yaesu. It looks like it will meet basic needs at least.

Im not sure why Yaesu would revert to RS232 on a new radio today, but at least FTDI RS232 dongles are cheap and easy to find.
Thanks to all for comments and advice. Now back to installing the radio in the Jeep. Finding a good route for the power cable from the battery to the cabin on a Cherokee has been a challenge.

(1)) What is an NIB 6000? Since it is posted on this site I will guess you meant FTM-6000.
(2) Go to the Yaesu website. Find the FTM-6000 page. Select the “files�� tab. You will find a Programing Software ADMS-13 Instruction Manual file. That should answer your most of your questions. I have not tried the Yaesu programming software since the FT-70 which worked, but was clunky to the point of being almost comical.
(3) I use the RT-Systems software & cable (USB plugs in to the back of the main unit), works well.
(4] I believe the Data connection is for connection a Packet-TNC or SignaLink unit.
