Re: Is this a factory mod?
Hi Wald,
I did a search of the Fox Tango FT-980 newsletters and found pages 8348, 8349 and 8352 about keying a Heath linear. Does this seem to be the relay mod? If it is the mod it is a Yaesu approved

USB-CAT Cables: A question for anyone ...
This is for the hamlib CAT library improvement project.
Do any of you have one of the USB <-> FT-980 CAT cables (not a FIF-232C interface)? If yes, do you know if it supports PTT (through CTS/RTS

Re: FT Newsletters Product Detector upgrade
Would it be possible for you to take before and after audio noise floor and signal measurements? I *think* it could be done with an HF signal generator and an audio analysis program on a PC (I would

Mat,
Interesting you mentioned the 1N5711. I have an entire parts drawer full of the things and have been using them in a number of mixer conversion projects - but all the data I can find on them

Re: FT Newsletters Product Detector upgrade
I've always found these diode-type articles interesting, and have wanted to actually take some before/after measurements. I found the QST article in the FT Newsletter that discussed this change as

Ran through a couple of mods and an article in the FT Newsletters that mention replacement of the OEM product detector quad with a set of Schottky diodes. Digging around those articles, one finds

It was a draft doc in case I ever got around to trying this out. Just a bunch of notes on VHF roofing filters, things to watch for, etc. No one else would understand the stream of consciousness
