Thank you Mat,

Re: Garbled Voice USB and LSB - troubleshooting and repair advice
The FT-980 is still a great rig ... usually very repairable. IMHO, if we could fix the CAT/panel lockout issue and add a selectable roofing filter it would be superior to many DSP radios.

Re: Type M connector
Is it by chance a type N connector? You should be able to buy an adaptor

Type M connector
My new to me 980 has a type M connector on the back. ?I gather it’s basically a SO-239, but metric. A PL-259 slides right over it but there’s enough difference in size that the threads don’t

Re: Anyone seen fans like mine?
I'm afraid I might be the source of this particular mod. Back in the day I did this to reduce noise when running my rig in contests.

Re: VR number for S meter calibration..
Hi Mark,
The S-Meter sensitivity pot is VR2005, located on the IF Board.
You can find the tuning procedure on page 26 of the technical supplement manual (in the files section).

Re: Looking for FT-980
I have seen about $400 (plus or minus) for the "working" base unit. The accessories are a bit over the map, with the matching SP-980 speaker-speaker/patch being pretty rare.
