Newest FT60 made in Japan again?

Hello group,
I just picked up another FT60 from Giga Parts on sale last week for $144.95. This is the cheapest I've seen them new in awhile.?
This one is made in Japan. My other one that is several years old is made in China. I can't tell them apart of course, but I'm wondering if Yaesu has switched production back to Japan. Hmmm.
My China FT60 is a 2012 radio as far as I can tell by the serial number
Mt Japan FT60 is a 2023 Radio based on the serial number.
But these radios have been marketed for 20 years now ( first introduced in 2004 I think). So the serial number decoding may not be valid anymore.
Wonder how Yaesu was able to build the FT60 for 20 years without the parts going obsolete. Most radio manufacturers discontinue their production after about 5-8?
years. I'm sure not complaining though because the FT60 has features that newer handhelds don't have to this day at this price point.?
Great job Yaesu.

It's a modern classic! If you could add or improve one feature through a firmware update, what would that be? I would add some more tuning step sizes.?

Hi Shane,

my FT-60E is s/n: 4K770499 (year?) and it is Made in Japan.
Frankly speaking I never heard about production of radio itself in China.
I know that accu, mic and other accessories are produced in China for long time ago...

Well the FT-530 could cross band. I don’t know that a software update could accomplish this but it is a very nice feature to have. K9RJ
