External Mic/SP that doesn't popout or create an open carrier

I bought a cheap 12 dollar secret service earpiece on Amazon which caused the FT60R to key unless I applied pressure to the cable to make sure it was fully inserted into the mic/sp jack.?

Does anyone use a third party mic/sp that doesn't have this issue? I was doing an event with my local ARES group and it would have been helpful to have had at least one ear with headphones.

Have you tried trimming the plastic collar back a bit.? As I have had to do that on lots of the aftermarket Mic's.. It allow the plugin to seat correctly into jack on radio.?

Agreed that trimming is a big help. Also a fat rubber band ala what many grocery stores put on broccoli helps after the trimming.

Hello Donni,

I am sorry to say this “but you get what you pay for...”

My suggestion going forward, is to not throw away $12.00 but invest in a genuine Yaesu/Vertix products and save yourself a hassle, and possibly embarrassing situations.

I have this rule, from personal experiences, anything that needs to plug into the FR-60R’s 4-Point contact it must be genuine Yaesu product.

I shelled so many $$$ that I learned my lesson. Plus with a broken elbow I don’t have the dexterity needed to “trimming the plastic collar back a bit.” Plus what is “a bit”? What happens if you get that “a bit” not right?! And possibly ruin your item? Now you have to spend another $$$ and by now you have paid just about the price of a genuine part!

You can surly cut corners with the Baofeng UV-5R family of radios. But not with Yaesu!

The price of the genuine part has a component of precision in the manufacturing process, and that is why you can get something for $12.00 because it is so compromised in manufacturing or materials, or both.

My two cents!

I have never had (and I NEVER use "absolutes" (grin)) a genuine Yaesu MH-34 speaker-mic "accidentally pop out" of any of my FT-60R HTs.

And I have owned them (speaker miss and the radio) since the moment the '60R was released.

I have the same mike, and also never had the jack pop out. Even though it’s a bit more expensive than the off market options, it’s well worth the money.

I have an MFJ speaker-mic and have never had a problem.? I route the cord under the belt clip and put the plastic loop on the base of the antenna where it belongs.? S lot of people seem to want to put it on a knob where it gets in the way.? It's made to fit the antenna.
