I'm expected to be comm support for the Boston Marathon tomorrow at 4:45 EDT. But I can't program the repeaters into my FT60R

If anyone can translate the documentation with the traps outlined where you can easily go wrong, I would be most appreciative and so will the people who are counting on me, at the moment - in vain.

Are you doing it through the keyboard? If so, I can help you.?

You cannot get a ham radio easier to manually program than the FT-60. All the main functions you need are on the 1-4 keys on the keyboard. Colin’s cheat sheet is the best.?

You know, I agree with everything said positive about my FT60R. ?But I'm afraid it's gone over the the enemy. ?I follow the Cheat Sheet exactly. ?When we get to press F/W key for one second, the frequency I've programmed is replaced by 430.00 and CANNOT be edited. ?The 001 blinks in the upper left corner but there is no changing 430.00. ?I've cleared it out at least five times with the ALLRST by restarting with MONI switched but to no avail. ?Anybody have an idea of how to replace 430.00?

Yes, I'm using the keyboard and, thanks to all the wonderful folk here (like you) I'm certain of what I'm doing.
I'll cut an paste from another response to see if you have any ideas?

Colin's cheat sheet is a simple as it gets and very complete.

After restating the rig while pressing the MONI switch and hitting the ALLRST, I press the V/M key to toggle from VFO to Memory. ?There in the number 1 memory position is 430.000. ?I can't make it go away. ?While it's there, I can't replace it. ?I twist the knob to put the freq in another location, I get six dots with no ability to edit them. ?I think Yaesu is deceased? ?Can we make it Lazarus, perhaps?

Vandy,

?

It isn’t that one doc is better than another. People just learn in different ways. Here is my unofficial user’s manual. I know it has a lot more than you need, but maybe it will work for you. I use lots of pictures and text to clarify the official manual:

You have to be in vfo mode to program channels, not memory mode. The 430.000 is a default frequency, the flashing 001 indicates that channel 001 is the first empty channel. Press vfo/mr again so the flashing 001 disappears. Use either the keypad or rotary dial to enter your desired receive frequency, then follow Clint’s cheat sheet from there.?

I've done exactly what Clint says every time. ?If the Yaesu starts up in Memory mode, the display says so. ?I usually toggle v/m to make sure. ?I start in VFO mode but every time I press F/W for one second, the frequency I've programmed is replaced by 430.000 and can't be edited. ?If I wait, 445.200 comes back. ?But checking memory 001 produces 430.000. ?We're going to try to enter the numbers by computer at Start in Hopkinton tomorrow, if they can get computer programmed for it. ?Since the day starts at 3:00 EDT, all of my potential support is where I should be -- in bed.

After you press the f/w key and get the flashing 001, press and release the f/w key again to save the new frequency.?

Read the manual. The FT60 is very easy to learn.

Try using FT-60 Commander software, found at kc8unj.com. It is a great program and free. Use the Alternate write method.?

Also, the FT-60 is absolutely the easiest radio to manually program.?

Other than the fact the the original post dates from 2019, this thread is my favorite so far.

The Commander package looks like a winner if I decide I need to “simplify" programming my HT. I’ve used my FT-60R enough in the last year or so to have developed muscle memory. That includes starting again from factory reset and arranging everything into different banks by geography and event use.

I’ll still keep the manual PDF on my phone and carry the quick reference card when I’m afield.
