redacted advised me to skip over the 65
and get another 60, or wait for the RT-70DR.

I think the FT-65 is a price-point radio that came out to be closer in
price to the various Baofeng, Wouxon, Puxing,etc. offerings. As you
imply, the accessories are not compatible with the FT-60 (and earlier
models) accessories.
The FT-70DR adds the Yaesu digital mode, but even if you just use it for
analog FM, I think you would be happier than with the FT-65. Some of the
FT-60 accessories do work with it
I would still be inclined to the FT-60 of the 3.
