CD-16/ VAC800 charger?

I was given an FT60 but no charger came with it. I bought a Vertex commercial desk charger CD-16 to charge the NiMh battery that came with the radio.
Seems to work fine with it as I guess several Yaesu/Vertex battery models including the stock battery that came with the FT60. I just bought the Amazon?
Lithium Ion battery and the charger seems to work with this battery also.
Is anyone else familiar with this charger or currently using it? Wondering why the two different model numbers for the same charger. Mine seems to charge all the various batteries in? about 1 hour .

The CD-16 was offered for HTs that used NiMH packs ... I do not believe it is "Li-Ion-aware."

The ?charging algorithms for those chemistries are different.

?Will it work? Yes - but, if, indeed, a NiMH charger, you will not realize the total number of discharge-charge cycles compared to properly charging it. And considering Li-Ion are only rated at 300-350 complete cycles (compared to 1,000 for NiMH), proper charging is even more important.

My radio is in the car, so I’m not sure if the battery I have that replaced the original NiCd pack is a Li-I or a NiMH. I’m thinking more likely the NiMH. I’ve been using the same original drop-in charger that came with the radio when I got it back in 2007. Should I NOT be using that charger and I should get the “correct” charger?

If it has been working all of those years, my suggestion is to just keep using it as you have been. :)

?Yaesu FT-60R HTs never shipped with NiCd packs.

You’re right. That’s how long it’s been. What4ever it was shipped with, I changed it to something newer. My question STILL is, am I OK or do I need to change the charger? It’s been working fine.

The FT-60 ships with Nickle Metal Hydride batteries.? If the new batteries are also NiMH you should be able to use the same charger.? If you’ve updated your battery to Lithium ion batteries you’ll need a new charger.? The old charger will be bad for Li-ion batteries and could cause a fire.
