Battery or radio

开云体育

My FT-60 is about 10 years old. It was getting time to replace the battery again. I ordered a battery from Big Time Battery Electronics for around $20,00.? ()

?

I knew, from the price, that this was a cheaper price for a battery of this type. However, when you are on a fixed income, anything priced lower is worth a try. Big mistake on my part.

?

The battery arrived and I installed it into my radio. The voltage read 7.5 volts, so I decided to charged it. After about 6 hours, it still read 7.5. volts. I turned it on and just ran the scanner and did not transmit any. I ran it down to about 6.3 volts. I again charged it and it ran back to 7.5 volts. This time, it only took a couple of hours and was down to 5.5. volts . I called the company and they said they would send me another battery. I about a week, the batter arrived.

?

Same thing, 7.5 volts. I transmitted into a repeater to get a radio check. I then turned the radio off and back on. The voltage read 6.3 . I put it back on the charger and now it won’t get any higher than 6.7 volts.

?

Before I call the company and complain again, I thought I would ask the group, if this could be? problem with my radio. It reads fine when I hook it up to my chargers and I can transmit while using my auto jump box. This tells me the radio is OK, but I still think I need to ask the group.

?

Any response would be appreciated.

?

Mt thanks in advance.

Was this happening with your previous battery before you replaced it?

What is a auto jump box?

开云体育

It is for starting a car when the battery is too low.

?

?

I use one for my F-817ND when I’m outside or in the field. Can be used for any HT or QRP rig.

OK, wasn't sure what that meant, thought it was something to do with the radio.

As for your battery, I would bite the bullet and get a new Yaesu FNB-83 you have the drop in SBH-13 charger right??

Yes, thanks that is what I will do. However, I want to make sure it is not the radio. Down the road, I plan on ?getting a new FT-60, as this one is around 10 years old.. Until that day comes, I have a 1 year old FT-70. Which works great,
