Battery

After a full charge, every time I key the PTT it seems to drain the battery very quickly and sometimes restarting the radio.
Is there a setting that I inadvertently set that would suck that much power?
Or is the battery damaged?
Or is there some internal damage in the radio itself?

Sounds like you might need a new battery. How old is the battery.

Probably a bad battery. ?Can you plug the radio into a car cigarette light and get it to work? ?Do not use the wall wart.?

The radio and battery are about 3 months old
I’m surprised that it’s failing already.

If you bought it new, then something is not right. All I can think of if the radio is shutting down is there is a defect. Is it still under warranty? ???? On Sun, Oct 13, 2024 at 05:13 PM, Norbert Bracke wrote:

Check your charger. Make sure it is producing the voltage needed.

Battery voltage is shown on the display when the radio is turned on...what is the voltage. Is it a Yaesu battery or an aftermarket clone?

I have tested the charger which reads 12V output.
I have tested the battery after being on the charger for 12 hours and it reads 7.2V
When I turn on the radio after the battery is fully charged it reads 7.2V
When I key the PTT I see the radio restart and the voltage dropping by 0.1V every time I key the PTT.
So, I am unclear if the battery is damaged or the radio.
Is there anything I else I can test?
This is a new radio, purchased in July 2024 with factory battery.

Norbert, battery should be 8.2 .8.4v I would call the place where you bought it from and ask for a new battery.

I once noted that the charger I was using brought the battery only up to 7.2 volts.? ??
Hmmm......
On investigating it looks like I was using the wrong "wall wart" power supply.

Now I cant find the right one.? ? DARN.? TOO MUCH STUFF around here.

What wall wart am I supposed to be using ??? ? ?

Hi Dave,
You need the 12v wall wart at least. I use the SBH-13 cradle. Needs 12v at 1amp!
There may be FT60s that will only charge on the cradle. There is also a fast charge cradle.

The charger that came with my FT-60 says 12 VDC @ 2 amps, center pin positive, and the manufacturer is Vertex Standard. ?

Dave,
?
You should be using the NC-88B, 200 mA. The Yaesu model is 351202OO3CT
