Andersen PowerPole connector?

Can anyone please tell me what connector I will need if I am going to make an Andersen PowerPole adapter for the DC In port to my Ft-60? Is it 4 or 4.5mm?

Thank you,

Stuart W1SLC

Buy a Yaesu E-DC-6, it's a premade lead and all you need to do is add Powerpoles.
Much neater than making your own.

We still don’t have the answer to the question.

I measured my adapter for the FT-60 and it is a 4mm connector.

Edited

Yaesu amateur service: ?E-DC-6 cable plug size is: 1.7mm x 4mm x 9mm.

That went well =)

Saves lots of money too =)

Thanks for the DC connector link. Any recommendations for a ferrite choke that should be used on the homemade FT-60R DC power cord to suppress noise when using in my running car?

Is there “failure to communicate” here?

I’m not sure I want to solder the bare leads of a Yaesu E-DC-6 to some Anderson powerpole connectors - even properly polarized - that might get hooked up to “who-knows-what” power source.? Where’s the voltage control?

Is the assumption that this powerpole lash-up is always used on a 12V DC source and no possibility of it being connected to some other power source?

Am I missing something here?

Sounds like an opportunity for great mischief.

Which connector do you recommend? 15A?

Thanks! And I appreciate all the other comments!

It is an HT ..... but if you want to make it universal with all of your Anderson Power Pole stuff use the same connector and FUSE the power cord correctly for the device /-)?? Ht ... two amps /-)

Interesting point, but if it were mine I wouldn't be worrying, I - and all my club and ARES friends - use them only on 12v.

I'm thinking same: 12v only.

Thanks again!

The FT-60 is designed to take 6V - 16V DC

Are you lending out your equipment unknown people?

A fuse is appropriate between the barrel connector?and the Andersons.? Other than that, I think using the red & black Andersons for "12V" power is as much as standard as 120 VAC plugs and outlets are.

I'm fairly sure the use of Anderson power pole connectors?is a country-wide standard for "12V" (i.e.: 13.8 V nominal) usage, perhaps even by FEMA.? It certainly is for California OES,?
"State of California OES prescribes the Anderson Powerpole as the standard dc power connector for use by State ACS/RACES personnel, and recommends its use by County and City RACES personnel as well. County of Orange RACES and other RACES groups throughout California and the United States have now adopted this connector. Using this standard, highly reliable connector allows quick and easy installation and substitution of radios, power supplies, batteries, and other equipment."

A quick online search shows it is also the standard for Ohio, Massachusetts, Texas, Kentucky, etc.? I didn't dig deeper as the avalanche was rather convincing.

An important thing to do, of course, is to lock the black & red together?per the standard for additional protection => some people who use these connectors for other voltages will deliberately lock the black and red together in a different orientation so they cannot be misplugged!

I have a mnemonic to remember how to orient.? Knowing that the metal tab for the black and red are oriented on the same side of the connectors when joined, "Red Roof Right"? Red Roof is a motel chain so I can remember that => Red (positioned with the metal on the) Roof (is on the) Right.??

Hi Stuart,

another option would be to get a battery box for the nonrechagables.
You can easily fit a fuse and a reverse polariry protection diode.

You then can attach a cable pigtail with powerpoles.

The downside is, that you cant charge a battery pack with this.

When working with an unknown power supply, it would be prudent to verify the voltage and polarity at the radio (or accessory) end of the cable with a DMM.? AA3T

The reason I would do this is to have another option of charging my radios. I currently have a powerpole cord with a female cigarette lighter connection and the Yaesu cigarette lighter charger that I can connect to each other and that will charge the radio. I am just looking for another option to have to charge my radios.

Thanks all!!
