a real newbie question
开云体育I set up my FT-60 to scan 2 meter. It has the original rubber duckie antenna on it. I take it outside where I can see the antenna farm 2.5 miles away up on the mountain. I hear nothing most of the time. Using the repeater book, I do know the repeater frequencies. I scan through this region of the spectrum and still get nothing. The squelch is set just above the noise floor. ? What gives? ? 73, ? Rick |
no one is using the repeater. try using one frequency with the PL and listen for the identifier. On Sun, Jun 15, 2014 at 6:54 PM, 'Rick - yahoo' rgsparber.ya@... [FT-60] <FT-60@...> wrote:

开云体育My suggestion is to wait until you get your call and are legal, then transmit and identify on one of the repeaters and see if you get either a reset beep or someone responds to you. ?Chances are there’s nothing wrong with the radio but only a unused repeater. ?Don’t panic and think it’s a radio problem until you can prove it is (or not).

开云体育I didn’t mean to imply that anything was wrong with the radio. I pick up some traffic but not very much. I was wondering if it was an antenna gain problem but find that hard to believe given how close I am to the repeaters. ? My real fear is that ham radio on 2 meter and 70 cm is dead in Phoenix. ?
