Re: YAESU FT-60: SPEAKER MIC COMPLAINT
NEVER had this occur with Yaesu¡¯s MH-34 speaker-mic. Some third-party audio accessories¡¯ tip of their 3.5mm 4-conductor plug is machined a little differently. Solution? Quite easy: Use one of those rubber charity bracelets wrapped around the radio.

For all intents and purposes Yahoo Groups was fatally wounded months ago when Verizon announced termination of data storage for the Groups. Recently they announced that their group's e-mail forwarding and access to old e-mails was being terminated. There is a Groups.io for the FT2DR at:? ??/g/FT-2dr It may be the same bunch, but only shows a group size of 29. Regards Chuck WD4HXG On November 1, 2020 at 10:07 PM, "Bob Wertz" <bob6315@...> wrote:

Does anyone know what happened to...
Hello All,
Anyone knows if the FT2DR Yahoo Group has moved to someplace? I am seeing some abnormal behavior on my FT2DR. I charge a battery (SBR-14LI) and I place it on the radio. In about 2 to 3 days the battery is completely discharged. Same battery, left of off the radio will last much much much longer. I have 3 SBR-1LIs and all of them are behaving in that way, so I¡¯m sure it must be the radio. Any ideas? 73 Wassim WN6WJN |
Re: Damaged ft-8800 head
If the drink that you spilled was not water by itself you have to clean it. If it was soda the sugar and acid on the soda will get more concentrated and cause corrosion. Do not turn it on until it is cleaned. At the very least clean using small amounts of water on a q-tip. The best thing you can find quickly would be distilled water, is there are any stains or dried residue you have to clean it up. If there was sugar in the drink, you need to get it out, water will dissolve sugar. Alcohol won¡¯t. So first use water, the. Use isopropyl alcohol, if you have some high concentration like %90 or higher it¡¯s good to use that after the water, go over the same areas that the stains were and let it dry.? ?Once the electronics are cleaned make sure the plastic parts of the head assembly are clean of any stains or dried residue.? Once you are sure everything is clean and dry. You can use canned air like keyboard duster to get and water out that has been hiding. Then reassemble. A video on cleaning, I think he uses an ultrasonic cleaner so not everything may be relevant. But it will explain why you want to clean this way and what can happen if the gunk is not removed. Simply drying is not enough. Please pardon his colorful metaphors.? On Sat, Oct 24, 2020 at 12:07 AM Steven P. Rogers, RN <srogers1198@...> wrote:

Ok... I took the cover off the back, but no water came out..? I placed it face down for several days to let it dry out.. When do I hook it back up and turn it on .. On Fri, Oct 23, 2020, 20:35 Jonathan Cotten <Cottenjonathan@...> wrote:

Re: Damaged ft-8800 head
DO NOT TURN IT ON.? You definitely don¡¯t want to power it on while there are contaminates in the head units. That will cause accelerated corrosion. You should clean with, ideally, de-ionized water, then use isopropyl alcohol to clean off the circuit board. The alcohol will evaporate much better than the water by itself. Then you want to dry the circuit board by letting it dry for a few days maybe.? The plastic parts you can wash with soap and water, when it is taken apart. Just make sure it is complete dry before putting it back together.? On Fri, Oct 23, 2020 at 7:09 PM WN6WJN <wn6wjn@...> wrote: Hi Steven, |
Re: Damaged ft-8800 head
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSteveI would call Yaesu and ask them for their advice. ?If you are technically inclined you may be able to wash the circuits in ¡®distilled water¡¯. It has to be distilled else dissolved minerals in the water can leave conductive paths. But check with Yaesu before doing anything.? A lot of printed circuit assemblies are washed in water these days to remove the water soluble fluxes used in vapor phase ovens used to flow the solder during assembly. But the unit has to be dried. Yaesu should be able to tell you if your radio can be disassembled and washed in a bath to remove the drink contaminants.? Re: Damaged ft-8800 head
I¡¯ve dried out electronics simply by shaking them out then leaving them in an air-conditioned or dehumidified room overnight. The culprit in my case was rainwater. A drink other than water will have ?contaminants of course: sugar, oil, etc. that might mean fouling of contacts and corrosion of metal. Good luck! Phil, KC6OEI -- --
