Re: CONVINCE ME: FIRST-TIME BUYER, MAYBE
I haven¡¯t heard that the FT-60 has been discontinued. HRO still sells them and it¡¯s still in their catalogue. It is still listed on the Yaesu website as a current model.

Re: Should I Buy One?
My wife bought me a FT-60 (before I was able to buy one, myself). I love it. As you said, it¡¯s simple, has only the basics that I need and nothing that I don¡¯t need. It¡¯s built like a tank.

Re: CONVINCE ME: FIRST-TIME BUYER, MAYBE
Just because RadioWorld cannot get then does not mean they are discontinued.
The FT-60R is the North American version. The European version, FT-60E.

Re: Should I Buy One?
Chris,
My primary reasons for preferring the FT-60 are:
1. Front panel programming is almost intuitive because it has human-sized
buttons with clear labels and many functions are directly accessible

Re: CONVINCE ME: FIRST-TIME BUYER, MAYBE
Radioworld, the only dealer in my country (Canada) is sold out, and won't
be getting any more. So, I guess I'd better watch HRO and DX

Re: Battery Replacement
Actually, I think the best solution is to buy the empty battery tray for the FT-60. Then buy some Eneloops or equivalent AA-sized NiMH batteries--you will need six per set.

Re: CONVINCE ME: FIRST-TIME BUYER, MAYBE
I use my FT-60 to track down ELTs on 121.5. Even tho the 406 system has come into use, they still use 121.5 on low power for homing in. I am part of Silver Star SAR in Washington State, and we get

You can do ODD SPLITS with it. I use mine with my FT8800 mobile and can cross talk to the truck for cross band coms. Great radio.

Re: CONVINCE ME: FIRST-TIME BUYER, MAYBE
Hi Chris!
It sounds to me like you've already made up your mind, and that's a good
thing!
Do you need another radio? Only you can answer that.
Is the FT-60 a "must-buy" radio? Are any, really?

Re: CONVINCE ME: FIRST-TIME BUYER, MAYBE
The Yaesu FT-60R is a GREAT value for anyone looking for a solid 2M/440 handheld. The FT-60R debuted at Dayton in 2004. It was a great bargain then - and remains so today. Among its features

CONVINCE ME: FIRST-TIME BUYER, MAYBE
I have several HT's already, for various bands and modes. I don't really need another. But, people refer to the now-discontinued FT-60R in such glowing terms, I want to pick one up so I don't miss
