Re: Antenna connection adapters-kit

Are the ones you have at all wobbly? I was watching a Ham Radio Crash Course video on You Tube yesterday about connectors and Josh was showing how some are much looser i.e., wobbly than others.

But that all-metal Yaesu CN-3 adapter should be outlawed ... All metal-to-metal contact with your HT's delicate SMA jack. Drop the HT, or place some stress on it with heavier coax or antenna, and you are yanking against the SMA connector. Use an adapter with some shock absorbtion ...

Re: So I am hopelessly lost on this FT-60R

Alvin,

If you reach it from San Martin, N6NFI near the Dish at Stanford has the "9 AM Talk Net" every weekday, open to all hams (no club membership required?nor expected). 145.230, 100 Hz PL.? Obviously primarily a San Francisco Bay Area talk net but N6NFI has awesome coverage into Half Moon Bay, Sierra foothills, and via Echo Link

Scott,
I can empathize you as I got my Technicians ticket a week ago yesterday and my FT 60 a week ago today.? I did buy the RT programing software and cable and loaded my radio with all the repeaters on 2 meter and 70 cm within 62 miles of my location (there is a? reason for this). I was wondering about first contacts and such until i was scanning the local repeaters and found a NET being run by a local ham club. It was muy iteresante. I suggest that you google local ham NETs and see what you come up with. One of the ones I hit yesterday was a "Tech Net" in the morning (09:00 PDT or thereabouts) and that's all I know, it was on a linked system, probably IRLP and was covering several states. It was fun to listen to. Anyway, find some local ham clubs say withing about 75 miles and see what you can come up with and if you are using rt -Systems software there are a ton of You Tubes on the subject of? Programing the FT 60 and the rt Systems webpage has several training videos. They are not exciting but their is good solid training to be found.?

Re: Antenna connection adapters-kit

The black adapters--Diamond and the cheaper ones--all have marginal fit. Even with a dab of dielectric grease they can be a struggle to remove. The stainless work much better, even if they don't look as cool.

Re: Newcomer

Slap the FBA-23 on the VX-6R, and you have - what? - 300mW TX power for a few minutes

Use the FBA-25 on the Ft-60R and you have FULL TX POWER for a few hours.

Sure, the VX-6R is cool. Love mine, with its usable TX power on 220. But that battery case scenario
sets the FT-60 apat from ALL the rest. ?

So I’ll have to agree/disagree. I do like my ft60 but I like what my VX6R has to offer a bit more. ?

The Yaesu FT-60R remans the absolute BEST feature set of ANY dual-band FM ham HT.

Re: Antenna connection adapters-kit

Great idea. Quality SMA connectors are rated at about 500 connects/disconnects. Protect it with a quality?
Diamond BNC-to-SMA adapter, and "wear it out" instead of wearing out the HT's connector.

Jumper cables and adapters are available at hamradio.com

Quality connectors and loss? Maybe 1/3 of one db. Negligible.

Re: Antenna connection adapters-kit

I also standardize on BNC for my HHs.? As I use them foot-mobile as well as on better antennas in vehicles or even as p25 monitors in the house, the BNC is a good quick 50 ohm connector.

A 2023 model like I just got is not any different form the 2004 model as far as I can tell, but I've only had my HT since 5/16/22023.

I found that the SBH13 will not work with a 12V supply that is less than 1A. Is yours the original Yaesu plug pack? SAD-16H.

SBH13 will not charge when the battery voltage is too low. I have got to such situation once. If you are 100% the battery you can connect the battery to a lab power supply with suitably set current limit to raise the voltage a bit and then charge in SBH13. Try at your own risk.

Re: Battery FNB-83 in Desktop Charger SBH-13

No, not normal at all. Was the battery hot? They don't charge when over a certain temp. Or it could just be a bad battery; It does happen. Either way a blinking red light on a charger generally means there is a fault that is causing a failure to charge.
