SBH-13 end of charge detection
How does SBH-13 terminates the charging cycle?
I understand it supposed to be an "intelligent" charger and not a fixed current fixed time charger however I am not clear if it uses thermal sensing, dV/dt (negative voltage delta detection) or perhaps a combination of these. The user manual is not specific about it. Does anyone know? |
Re: HB battery pack using Li-po cells

Nice idea to use a couple of flat 103450 cells, but I am pretty standardized on the common 18650, so after my 6-month old replacement battery failed, I fit a holder for two 18650 cells into the back of the ft-60 using a little sheet metal magic. I only use it in my car so can easily carry a few charged cells around. JS6TMW

Jim,
Did you use the White Eneloops? Eneloop extended their product line with some batteries of differing capabilities. They were ever so slightly larger than the standard white Eneloops and were known to be problematic in applications with tight size tolerances
- like our Yaesu battery adapters.

When I purchased a set of Eneloop AA cells a few years ago, I found that I could not fit them in the FBA-25AA case (they were just a bit too large). Is there known to be variability in size between lots?

Re: HB battery pack using Li-po cells
Physical incompatibility and uncertain quality control are two reasons I took the simple approach. I bought a spare FNB-83 when I bought the FT-60R and rotate my packs in service. I salute those who prefer to tinker with other options, seeking more cycles per dollar. I wanted reliable and durable capacity right away. If I don¡¯t get as many cycles out of my purchase, that¡¯ll be OK. I¡¯ll still get enough to suit my purpose. Re: Flowerpot dual band antenna
I bought the radio with accessories on EBAY. The OEM rubber duck and a extensible antenna were included. The extensible gives me more range than the rubber duck, and there is no brand name on it. Not a Smiley? - at least it doesn't look like a current version.?

Re: Flowerpot dual band antenna
True, the Admin/owner controls what available options are actually enabled. Good for you, jumping into making an antenna! The flower-pot dual-band antenna is very appealing, as is a copper-tubing J-pole. I bought aluminum rods and PVC for a couple of 2-meter 3-element yagis and a roll of wire for an end-fed HF antenna. I have those and a 49:1 impedance transformer on my list of postponed projects. Send me your pictures and have fun on Field Day.
