Re: FT-60R Standard Antenna- Weak RX?

The Diamond SRH320A that I use is a vast improvement, it allows me to get into a couple of 2M repeaters approximately 10 miles distant.? The SMA connector on this antenna? is the wrong gender for the FT60R, but that is easily solved with a set of BNC connectors which also allows easy connections to other antenna systems, mobile, etc.? 73, KI5HCM

Not only does the 70 sound amazing on Fusion, especially voice wide mode, I think it's the best-sounding Yaesu radio on Fusion, period!

I haven't heard anyone talking on the new FTM-300 on Fusion yet though.

Re: Question

The digital repeater is close to a hundred miles away and often ducts into our area however that club has never had any issues with our machine affecting theirs at any time in the past.

Re: Question

Personally, I only program tones/codes for TX, and leave RX open on repeaters.

I live in the most populous region of the nation's most populous state. There is "overlap"?
on many frequencies: If I were "closed tone" on RX - I might accidentally step on a distant?
system on the same frequency. Keeping it "open" on RX allows me to truly monitor the
frequency before keying?my mic.

But for events and such SIMPLEX - we'll "lock 'em up" and ENCODE and DECODE on a tone ...

Have to watch the codes and tone.? Some repeaters are using non std off sets, codes or tones. Ft60 has most common ones preprogramed but there is the occasional odd duck. Just have to verify repeater settings.? An extended antenna will do wonders too over mfg rubber duck. I put extended rubber ducks on all of mine, it's night and day. Be mindful that there is a difference in too in extreme antennas.? I get best results from one starting with a "ra" part number. I have hit repeaters in excess of 50 miles here in nm.?

I have been following the problem Dora raised about a repeater that she says is in her area that she gas had trouble with. Many good answers have been given, but apparently Dora was still having trouble.

I remember when I first received my FT-60 I had the same issue. I searched the web for answers and found one that cleared it up. It was the numbered sequence of instructions on page 22. If Dora’s manual is like the one I recently downloaded, which is the same as the one I have, (2 years old) this could be her problem, if she tried to follow the sequence as listed. Step ‘3’ must be skipped, then proceed to step 4 then 5 and 6.

Apparently Yaesu hasn’t cleared up these instructions. I Renumbered the sequence 2 as 2a, and changed ‘3’ to 2b, 2c and 2d; then 4 became 3 and so on. The steps 2a to 2d could be used to set up the other codes should you want to use them later.

A Vac-370 Rapid Charger question.

?Hello All,

I had some of my items placed in storage (since 2017) and now I went to the storage unit and found a box with a lot of FT-60R related items. Some batteries, and the Vac-370 rapid charger, and some other items. Naturally I brought that box home with me.

Now I placed the batteries into the charger and I was surprised that for the most part the original Yaesu batteries had held their charge at 8.1v. That is 3 years (minus a couple of days) in non-climate controlled situation.

One battery is not happy. I put it into the charger and it goes till 6.1 v and then the light on the charger starts rapidly blinking red. This is not an original Yaesu battery so I’m not too concerned about it. I am thinking of discharging it and then go for a full charge and see if it’s happier that way.

Can the Vac-370 recondition batteries? If yes, how do I make it do so?

Also, does anyone have a manual for the Vac-370? I looked online and all the sites look shady enough not to stay to download anything.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

DISABLING THE YAESU WIRES FUNCTION
Revision 1.2 11/29/07
The Yaesu WIRES (Wide-coverage Internet Repeater Enhancement System)
proprietary Internet Connection feature operates by transmitting a short (~
0.1 second) DTMF (Dual Tone Multi Frequency) tone burst each time the
Push-to- Talk button is pressed. The WIN (Western Intertie Network) System
repeaters are set up to mute DTMF tones. Each time the WIRES DTMF tone is
transmitted, the repeater mutes for several seconds and the first few words
of the user's transmission are lost.
The WIRES function is turned ON or OFF by momentary pressing the 0 key on a
FT-60 handheld or left VOL knob on a FT-8800 or 8900 mobile radio. The WIRES
function can be disabled so that it cannot accidentally be turned on using
the following steps:
FT-60 – See manual page 49
1. Press the F/M key then immediately press the 0 key to enter the menu
mode.
2. Rotate the Dial knob to menu 23 – INT MR.
3. Press the F/M key then rotate the Dial knob to select a memory (d1
through d9) that is empty, i.e. it contains ······ (six dots) = no tone.

The FT-60 contains a setting for a discontinued Internet Service called
WiRES . We are *not* referring to Wires-X which replaced. it.

The manual on page 61 discusses this setting. Including how to turn it off
and on. There is a URL for more information Take the URL and it plainly
states this is a discontinued feature.

I have tried to turn mine off. It is putting out a tone at the beginning of
all transmissions. It was caught be on of our Senior Elmers tonight. I am
not able to turn the one off on my radio according the the manual. Any help
is appreciated.
