Re: Programming with Commander

ha, when I did it, it gave me a choice.... I selected incorrectly but made up for it by physically switching the plug to the other port and so I have to remember which one I plug into.? Not very automatic but it works.

Re: plans for dual band yagi

Handheld tape measure beams/yagis are an inexpensive way to get into the world of high gain with your HTs.

Heck, I turned my TX power DOWN to 2W to speak with ISS Commander Wiseman two Field Days ago using a tape measure beam ...

You can use Boot Camp and install Windows on your Mac.

" way too much noise here. s9 noise on HF here at house with a dipole at 60' even. "

Call the power company and report the noisy lines. They are obligated by FCC rules
to fix interference problems - that has been proven in court.?? I have had them out
multiple times to repair more than 7 poles and this has cut my noise a lot.?

As far as a dual band Yagi I use a Cushcraft A27010S - great gain and gets me into
the distant repeaters and contacts up to 500 miles when the band opens.

I use an Arrow Jpole for my omni - not much gain but broadband and strong.

yes on tape measure. I saw that 1 but it really wont hold up if I decide to put up on tower to sue perm.
this project is kind of double edged. I want to make 1 with the scouts here maybe to use for ISS contacts. a tape measure will do the job for sure. BUT I also want to see 1 I can use on home shack at 20' and hold up to our wonderful weather.

I am not sure the copper 1 here will hold up too good BUT will do real fine for learning the measurements and ideas of making a beam.

Our ARES group will start soon doing antennas. start with basic wire antennas for emergency times mainly. but I have plans for the copper j-pols and the arrow J-pole that are easy builds.???? Just want to see if I can get better connections north into victoria and maybe SA if luck is with me. we seem to be in a hole in town. go to edge of town all all works fine.
USe HT at walmarts edge of town. can hit Danny k5djs IRLP server easy 10 mile run. I drive 2 miles maybe to house in town and can not hit same server. really stinks but thats life in smaller town. all wires and everything on poles and not under ground. way too much noise here. s9 noise on HF here at house with a dipole at 60' even.

thanks for the links I will add to my growing list of places to read more and learn more. thats the main thing. I will pass list along to our group so they can read and decide if they want to try and build 1 themselves also.

Google cheap Yagi. Simple plans. Dual requires two separate antennas and feed lines, unless you build a duplexer.?

has plenty of sources to build on the web. PVC & tape measure pieces cut to length. I have not built one myself, yet. Looking at building my first antenna and probably need to start there instead of building a??first.

Re: Question about FT60R vs. the FT60E

Hi,
I have sent Kirby a private message, but the repeater shifts are all over the place. Generally standardised as 1.6 at plus and minus shifts, more lately Belgium and the low countries have gone for 7.6 shift which could be plus or minus, dependant on which end of the band is used as Repeater transmit. In France a lot of repeaters have 9.4 MHz shift again plus or minus, dependant on which end the repeater transmit is. In the UK DMR repeaters have adopted a 9 MHz shift but some are at 7.6 MHz which will need research to wherever you decide to travel.

My personal repeater is 9.4 MHz with RX at 439.475.

So the FT60 needs individual channel programming with the possibility that one repeater output can have a selection of inputs, or visa versa.

Confirmation that we poor region 1 users have only 2 MHZ at 144 and 10 MHz at 430 and certain restrictions even then, We may be primary users on 144, but secondary on the 430. There is even a PMR allocation ?at 434 in France with the little 200 mw transceivers.
Chris

Kerby,

If you have the RT Systems software for programming the FT-60R, it allows you to select the shift for each memory channel or VFO in a pull-down menu in the "Offset Frequency" column. 1.6 MHz and 7.6 MHz are two of the selections.

I know they don't have as much band width, either. 144-146 on 2m, 430 or 440-450 on 70cm, compared to 144-148 and 420-450 US.?
