Re: Drop in charger

Ed

In the past, I have been happy with the Diamond RH-77 series. I have
not yet tried it on the FT-60.

Re: Drop in charger

While you are waiting for the charger to materialize, I would suggest you
use RAYOVAC IC3 15 Minute Rechargeable Batteries. They are NiMH rated at
2000 mAh. I use mine in the spare batter case. When you connect external
power they are disconnected from the radio. Of course, they must be
recharged in the RAYOVAC charger. They are kick-ass batteries. Look for
them at chain Pharmacies on sale. Radio Shack is OVER priced.

Re: Open Forum?

Hi Ron,

Funny thing, I actually just got home from UPS, I was sending my FT-
60R back to AES. EXACT same problem as you described. I didn't use
any memory banks though, I was scanning main memories when I powered
off, then the next time I powered on it was blank. Do you by any
chance have the serial number of the problem unit? I am hoping my
replacement works OK.

Multiple places to post is right, three FT-60 groups (that I know
of): FT-60, FT-60R, and ft60. Nothing too unusual though, there are
at least three VX-7R groups as well: VX-7R, YaesuVX-7, and YAESUVX7.

So anyway most of my software development is on hold until I get a
new unit, if I am lucky maybe late this week or early next week.

I had a problem with my FT-60 that forced me to return it to Yaesu.
I attempted to post about the problem three times but none of the
posts were allowed. I only received personal replies from the list
owner. I was frankly put off a bit that I couldn't share my
experiences publicly, and perhaps find a solution to the problem or
at least get some additional input.

I'm taking the liberty of reposting the same message here........

I have had my FT-60 for two weeks now and except for having to trim
the label away from the charge contact on the battery, have had no
problems.

Last weekend I sat down to begin manually adding frequencies to
memory. Again, no problems. However, after I began adding selected
memory locations to banks, the unit froze up on Bank 10. I
immediately powered off, and upon powering up again noted that the
standard three tones played as usual, but the display was totally
blank. Moreover, there was no received audio. The unit, except for
the three tones on powerup, is totally dead.

I have attempted resetting multiple times. The radio goes into
reset
mode (5 tones played) but without a display it is difficult to
determine which reset mode is being used. I tried each, based on
counting clicks on the control knob, but no joy.

I have also removed the battery and have run on a 13.8 volt supply,
but with the same results.

Any ideas????

I have since talked to Yaesu technical support and they had no
ready
solution so I have sent the radio to them. In my mind it appears to
be scrambled firmware or a related processor problem. If it was
caused by the bank programming, then there could be a bug in the
microcode. If anyone else has had a problem like that I'd like to
know. Let me point out that all the programming I did was manual,
without using any form of software.

Yes it's the desktop rapid charger for the FT-60.? When ever Yaesu decides to start shipping it to dealers.

Welcome

Ed

Hi Gang-

Welcome to all of you who have quickly signed up since last night. I
really wasn't entirely comfortable doing this being that Clint is a
great guy and all... but when I noticed he had some issues with
discussions of the Commander software I was afraid he might have
some "conflict of interest" issues. Whether my assumptions are right
or wrong, I thought another avenue was needed where we can have some
unodderated discussion as long as we don't stray in to areas not
concerning the FT-60.

Let's not forget that CLint is a good guy and continue to support him
as well.
