Re: FT-60R replacement battery

Me, too. 2700mAH NiMH - that’s twice the capacity of stock NiMH pack. Then improved my antenna - that makes it about FOUR TIMES battery longevity.?

Oh, and when I use an earpiece … What is the first thing you’ll do with the VOLume control? You will turn it DOWN. And what eats up batteries? Keying the PTT to transmit, and loud audio.

BOTTOM LINE: My batteries last forever … (g)

Re: FT-60R replacement battery

If you get a quality li-ion pack from anyone, you will need a charger that properly charges it. Batteriesamerica.com has been great for me for about 20 years.

Re: FT-60R replacement battery

Want to double battery longevity? Turn tx power down to 2W, and use a Smiley 270 or Diamond SRH-320a antenna.

If you are not making it line-of-sight FM voice with 2W, odds are you won,t with 4-5W.

Want to increase battery life even MORE? Use an earpiece or mini-boom mic!

Oh I’ve done that before. And, don’t ask how many times I’ve picked up and keyed the wrong mic. ?

Re: What am I doing wrong

Scott,
I had the same thing happen today.? Make sure the RT cable is in firm in the radio, wiggle it a bit too. Resend send to radio again,
It worked for me.

Stupid question:? is there a way to just clear the radio and start over?

Did you read from the radio, then make changes, then send back to the radio?

Re: What am I doing wrong

That was it, plus I forgot to press the FW, I guess I need to slow down and read the directions better.

Thanks,

Remember, you need to read from the radio before you can write to it.? You don't need to write the same file you read, but you do need to read first or you'll get an error.? I don't recall if the error you got is that one.

Jayne,
What is the FT-60R option you refer to? RT? I can’t find anything on the iPhone app store.

Re: Help programming Yaesu FT-65R with Chirp

The reference is for the FT-65 ...

Re: Newest FT60 made in Japan again?

Well the FT-530 could cross band. I don’t know that a software update could accomplish this but it is a very nice feature to have. K9RJ

Re: Comm Settings for Programming FT-60 With CHIRP

Hi Nick,

I found several queries within the group looking for this info, but none of the replies stated it.
The USB-Serial Bridge driver sets up a default value but I don't know if the programming software, CHIRP in this case, can actually change these settings.
CHIRP does know the comm settings for each radio. So far I have only read my FT-60, it will be interesting to have a look at my Chinese radios and see if they are different.

Part of the reason I had to do this was because of the recessed MIC/SP socket on the FT-60 stopping the programming plug mating correctly in the socket.
This gave me multiple "read" failures, so I started looking for comm settings. It was while looking for the comm settings that I found Hugh's article.

Time will tell:-)

I've always used purpose-specific software (i.e., not CHIRP) to program my Yaesu handhelds but I have used CHIRP to program some cheap Chinese radios.

I haven't made any programming changes to my cheap Chinese radios with CHIRP for quite some time (except for a recently-added Quansheng) but I don't recall ever needing to know the communications settings such as you presented.? It's as if CHIRP already knows this information based on the mfr and model number of the radio.

It's curious to me that you needed to do this.

Hello All,

After tearing my hair out and spending many fruitless hours searching the net for these settings, I finally found them.
In CHIRP! In the Log. (After several failed attempts)
They work. I was able to read the radio. Haven't tried an upload yet but I am sure all is now sorted out.

Here are the settings
Baud: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Stop Bits: 1
Parity: None
Flow Control: None

Hope this helps some other hapless soul out there:-)

PS: I bought an JiYKR / WakeSnow 8-in-1 Programming Cable from a supplier in Australia.
It will program most commonly available Japanese and Chinese and some Motorola radios. They are readily available on the net.
NOTE: I had to file the end of the plastic connector body down to 6mm diameter to fit fully into the recessed "MIC/SP" socket on the radio.
Thanks to Hugh Burnham M0WYE for the socket "heads up" in his article "Connecting a Microphone and Loudspeaker to the Yaesu FT60E Transceiver" in the Files section of this group.
