Speaker mic would use less volume, thus less battery.?

Is that 2,100mAh pack you mention compatible with the Yaesu drop-in charger? Thanks Chris At 01:29 PM 4/17/2020, you wrote: You can get batteries for |
Re: What Are My Battery Options?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI think the worry addressed by the manual is that you¡¯ll try to put the AA pack with rechargeables in the Yeasu charger. It won¡¯t work, and might be exciting. We¡¯ve been running eneloops in the AA pack as spare power for years, and they¡¯ve worked fine. Just take them out of the pack to charge. Rick KK6WHJ ***

Re: What Are My Battery Options?
You can get batteries for The FT60 in varying sizes. I have a few 1400mAh and a 2100mah, I tend to stick with what yaesu/vertex actually sell because some of the aftermarket batteries don¡¯t work with the yaesu chargers. There is a LiOn battery that fits the radio but requires a different desktop charger. The whole combo is about $75, but I haven¡¯t heard that it works any better. Unless one lives in Antarctica, I have no idea why hams are infatuated with?
Li-Ion battery packs ... (g)?They do perform better in frozen conditions. But they will last only about 3-350 discharge-charge cycles, if properly? maintained. That is a key point: Li-Ion CHARGERS are required to properly? maintain Li-Ion packs - it is a different charge algorithm than NiMH ... Properly maintained NiMH cells/packs will last more than 1,000 discharge- charge cycles. Yes, Li-Ion may weigh a little bit less than NiMH. To achieve that "gain,"? just stop ordering super-sized fries with that meal ... SO ... YES, BatteriesAmerica offers a Li-Ion pack for the FT-60R. Their Li-Ion pack is the V67Li - $49.95 Their Li-Ion charger is the VAC-810B - $49.95 $100 bucks for 350 discharge-charge cycles, initial cost. COMPARED TO purchasing the Maha C800S8AAP - EIGHT NiMH AA 2600mAH? cells and intelligent charger for $60. That's 1,000 discharge-charge cycles for? $60. I did the math: $0.28 versus $0.16 per charge ... Even if you need to purchase a new FBA-25 to house the AAs, there is still clear? choice ... ?Clint PS - Oh, Li-Ion packs DO hold their charge un-used for longer time than NiMH! But, personally, I do not charge up any of my FT-60R HTs and store them away? for six months, un-used ... -- Clint Bradford K6LCS http//www.work-sat.com |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Clint.
I have the Yaesu SM63A headset coming, might get a speaker mic as well. :)
Which external antenna did you go with?
I'm a big fan of the Diamond 77ca, and the Signal Sticks from . The performance between those two seems very similar.

BUT - I also have improved my antenna, and regularly turn TX power DOWN to 2W. If one isn't making it at 2W and a better antenna, then you probably won't be making? it at 4W. Another battery saver: Use a speaker-mic! -- Clint Bradford K6LCS http//www.work-sat.com |

Yes! I have a FT-60R, as well, and when my original battery no longer held a charge for as long as I would have liked, I bought a new battery from BATTERIES AMERICA. They have a battery that matches the original one that came with the radio as well as higher-capacity batteries. They also sell a battery case for standard AA batteries, which is nice to have in case you don¡¯t have a freshly-charged battery. The AA batteries only give you 2 or 3 watts (I don¡¯t really remember), but it¡¯s good enough for most uses. |

I am sure some folks will add comments regarding the available options. I have had no issues with the standard battery. I have had to replace the battery due to age. I guess I got about 5 or 6 years out of a battery. Their is a higher capacity version available aftermarket though. No idea about lithium but you need to be conscious of voltages. As far as using rechargeable batteries in the pack the issue is the voltages. The rechargeable batteries usually, from what I understand, run at slightly lower voltages which makes the radio think you are in a low voltage I.e. weak battery stage and the internal sensors damp down some features like transmission Tom KB3ONZ On Apr 17, 2020, at 12:56 PM, Chris Smart <csmart8@...> wrote: |

I'm about to receive a used Yaesu FT-60R... my first! Better late than never, right? :)
Its NiMH battery is used, and rated at 1,400 mAh. That seems low compared to newer batteries for other HT's I own. Does anyone sell a higher-capacity pack for the FT-60R, maybe even Lithium instead of NiMH? Also, the manual makes a big point of advising against using rechargeable AA's in the 6AA alkaline pack. Is this still the case, even with newer cells? I have a great external charger, and will always be removing them from the pack and charging them in that... and they are 2,700 mAh cells: Thanks for any tips and info. Transmit pl problem
I am trying to access repeaters with pl on 443mHz. The pl is turned on and proper shift. I searched the pl tone with another radio and it came up with the correct tone being transmitted. But I cannot access the two close machines near me. Is it possible the tones level is too low? My Kenwood ht accesses both machines ok.
