Re: What Are My Battery Options?

Exactly! What is the first thing 99 per cent of hams would do if they used an earpiece or speaker-mic? Turn the volume DOWN!

What eats up batteries? TX and loud audio!

Speaker mic would use less volume, thus less battery.?

Hi.

Is that 2,100mAh pack you mention compatible with the Yaesu drop-in charger?

Thanks

I think the worry addressed by the manual is that you¡¯ll try to put the AA pack with rechargeables in the Yeasu charger. It won¡¯t work, and might be exciting. We¡¯ve been running eneloops in the AA pack as spare power for years, and they¡¯ve worked fine. Just take them out of the pack to charge.

Re: What Are My Battery Options?

Edited

Unless one lives in Antarctica, I have no idea why hams are infatuated with?
Li-Ion battery packs ... (g)?They do perform better in frozen conditions.

But they will last only about 3-350 discharge-charge cycles, if properly?
maintained. That is a key point: Li-Ion CHARGERS are required to properly?
maintain Li-Ion packs - it is a different charge algorithm than NiMH ...

Properly maintained NiMH cells/packs will last more than 1,000 discharge-
charge cycles.

Yes, Li-Ion may weigh a little bit less than NiMH. To achieve that "gain,"?
just stop ordering super-sized fries with that meal ...

SO ... YES, BatteriesAmerica offers a Li-Ion pack for the FT-60R.

Their Li-Ion pack is the V67Li - $49.95
Their Li-Ion charger is the VAC-810B - $49.95

$100 bucks for 350 discharge-charge cycles, initial cost.

COMPARED TO purchasing the Maha C800S8AAP - EIGHT NiMH AA 2600mAH?
cells and intelligent charger for $60. That's 1,000 discharge-charge cycles for?
$60.

I did the math: $0.28 versus $0.16 per charge ...

Even if you need to purchase a new FBA-25 to house the AAs, there is still clear?
choice ...

?Clint

PS - Oh, Li-Ion packs DO hold their charge un-used for longer time than NiMH!
But, personally, I do not charge up any of my FT-60R HTs and store them away?
for six months, un-used ...

Hi Clint.

I have the Yaesu SM63A headset coming, might get a speaker mic as well. :)

Which external antenna did you go with?

I'm a big fan of the Diamond 77ca, and the Signal Sticks from . The performance between those two seems very similar.
