I guess you have to threaten it with the British once in a while.
(I can say that because I have Irish& Wench heritage).

Re: Commander no longer works

I originally loaded Commander on my Win2k machine (because it has a legacy serial port). Then I moved and discovered that my Vista machine also has a legacy serial port. However, when I loaded Commander on the Vista machine, I couldn't get it to work. Found a British website with another type of Commander, loaded and it worked right away....
So, just for fun, tried Commander again, and voil¨¤, it started working.?

Attending PACIFICON?

Any satellite enthusiasts attending PACIFICON October 14-16 in Santa Clara this month???

I have a table in the main hallway reserved JUST FOR US! How 'bout manning the table for an hour or two Saturday?

TENTATIVE satellite passes for the show ...

FRIDAY 10/14/11
4:31PM PDT - AO-51

SATURDAY 10/15/11
2:43 PM PDT - AO-27
3:52 PM PDT - AO-51
7:51 PM PDT - ARISSat-1
10:16 PM PDT - SO-50

... so I'll be outside working those at those times. And giving my presentation at 11AM and 1PM Saturday.

Bring your rig and show it off at the Sat Comms table! Bring some QSL cards, too ... or biz cards from your own club ... If it is satellite-related, bring it and get it in front of a few hundred fellow hams!

Call me at 909-241-7666 (or my Skypename is clintbradford). Or send email to clint@... if you are able to help out!

I actually got an email back from the cable supplier and a link to a new driver.? It worked.?

?

Naturally, this only happened after I ordered a new cable from another supplier.? Go figure.

Thanks nonetheless.

With a battery pack attached, that would not allow maximum transmit power.

Supply Voltage: Nominal: 7.2 V DC, Negative Ground

Operating:

6.0 ~ 16.0 V DC (EXT DC Jack)

11.0 ~ 16.0 V DC (EXT DC Jack with Charging)

Noise filtering. Current regulation. Allows radio to work properly - as it requires almost 2A current at 440 key-up (a little less on 2M).

Re: FT-60R Programming cable help

I bought a cheap knockoff serial cable from taiwan via ebay. It was
like 7 bucks after shipping, so I figured if it didn't work I wasn't
out much. It works great with XP. I don't have windows 7, and I
haven't tried it on Linux yet, just haven't had time. But It works
just fine with commander on my XP machine at work.

Re: FT-60R Programming cable help

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I bought a USB cable for the FT-8800R from Kawa Mall on E-Bay.? It works fine with Windows 7.? I think it came with a driver disk, but I did not need to use it.? When I buy stuff on E-bay, I deal with "stores" that are in the US.? Kawa Mall is in Iowa.???

As for the FT-60R, I'm using an RT Systems serial cable I originally bought with v2 software for the VX-2R.? It works well with a serial-USB converter I had originally bought to interface with a Garmin GPS serial cable; the combination works on both XP and 7.? I'm using the FT Commander software.? I attribute my success to having purchased a high-quality USB-serial converter, which was partly due to good luck.? This is the adapter I bought:?

If I had to buy a USB cable for the FT-60, I would try Kawa Mall.

I would like advice on whitch cable to buy to program a FT-60R using Commander software. I prefer a usb cable. Some cable and software combinations do not work at least for me, as tryied the ttl2.usb with windows 7 and failed, so returned the ttl2.usb. Would like a usb cable that has been known to work with windows 7, and backwards to windows xp also.
Would consider just a serial cable also. Any information on make and model of cable appreciated. I see alot of cables for sale on Ebay but not sure if any of them actually work?

Thank's,

Re: Is there something special about the car charger made by yaesu?

My answer would be "it depends".? Are you intending to use it in a similar fashion as the original Yaseu supplied wall wart charger for short recharging cycles?? If so, then that's probably ok to do so, does it have a similar current capacity to the NC-88B (200 mA)?? Remember that the FT-60 doesn't incorporate any sort of internal smart charging circuit as do some other radios.

If I wanted to power the radio for operation, I would step back the voltage to 7.5 or 8 Volts, assuming your device could do that.? I have one of the 12 v battery replacement devices that provides an indicated 8.0 volts to the radio and seems to run mine day in and day out at the office w/o problems.

Is there something special about the car charger made by yaesu?

Here's the deal. I have a variable vote car adapter that adjusts both voltage as well as plugs. If I have it set fore 12 volts, is this okay?

Re: Mono Band Mode

MJ

Sadly all of repeaters in Auburn, Sacramento, Nevada City, and surrounding areas were asked to reduced their output power to 5w or to move locations - most simply just shut down. This was after several requests by the Air Force/DOD citing "interference" by these stations.

I am sure anyone can google "70cm pave/paws northern California" and examine what has been done to that *secondary* allocation here.

It affects repeater location, power and directionality.

Although it has led to repeater shutdowns and changes, we have lots of 70cm
repeaters around here.

If you got close enough to the site to interfere using your FT-60, you'd
probably have other legal problems.

Re: Mono Band Mode

In some countries the bands that amateurs can use are different than
here in the US. In order to mistakenly transmit illegally you can
place it in Uhf or Vhf only. If the US House of Representatives has
any say we won't be able to use a majority of the 70cm band either.
See HR607:

I suspect that it may be illegal to listen on many of the frequencies
the FT-60 will listen to in some countries as well. If memory serves
me correctly placing the FT-60 in VHF only or UHF only limits receive
to those frequencies that are open to transmit. Maybe I'll have to try
it sometime to see.

I have used the memory only mode on occasion when doing public service
work to make sure that the radio didn't accidentally leave the
frequencies I needed.

Re: Mono Band Mode

That's mostly a repeater/base station issue rather than an HT issue, since you would have to be on the grounds of Beale AFB...
