I have had luck using the following technique with watches and other HT's...

As others have said, take the battery off of the HT, then get a Tupperware container large enough for the HT to sit in. Pour 1 cup of rice into the container, place the HT on top of it, and seal the tupperware container. Check in 24 hours - the rice should absorb the moisture that has gotten into the radio. there is a bloke in England who has had several (more than 3) replaced under warranty the hot inside/cold outside environment causes this fogging to occur sometimes not even submerged in water after excessive TX usages then the radio later fails suspect the radio being sealed seals in that heat as well as water/moisture out peace, haans ) On Sep 18, 2011, at 11:11 AM, MJ wrote: Purchased this model after getting my license a number of years ago. The issue is with the original battery pack (with the "sealed"-in-place NiMH batteries).? Connecting an external source of power results in those batteries getting over-charged, thereby shortening their useful life.? In other words, the HT has no intelligent charger built in.? I don't know about the VX7.? My cell phones do.

Mike try to get your hand on some Freon TF (TRICHLOROTRIFLUOROETHANE) try a large electronics shop or maybe ask a ham working the government. The first think you should have done remove battery pack and place the radio down? on a hard surface in the sun and let it try? to dry it self out a couple of hours. While this is happen get a large empty coffee can 3 pound size minimum, fill three quarters of the way full with white rice, place the radio in the can and fill up the rest of the way with rice and wait a couple of day, then reinstall the battery and hope for the best! Caution you mileage may vary do this at own risk! If can get a hold of Freon TF pour a half cup on/in the radio. If the Freon FT in an a aerosol can use about three quarter of can on it. The rice acts as a Desiccant just like Silica Gel

Purchased this model after getting my license a number of years ago. I remember reading (and the confirming) that this model was water resistant prior to taking along with me on a canoe trip with the scouts. During the trip we were sunk twice - completely submerging the canoe and my radio.
I noticed immediately that water was able to get in and cause some fogging to occur between the view window and the LCD. I didn't bother turning it on, figuring something else go wet inside. Now, a week later, the radio won't turn on. Looking for suggestions - is this something I could repair? Is there a shop you know of that could repair the damage cheaper than buying a new (hopefully water proof) model? Mike KI6NLC |

No experience w/ the unit discussed, but I did purchase a couple of the acoustic tube earpiece sets from ebay with a remote, lapel mount for the mic.? See ebay item # 160507398573.
Very inexpensive but I've used it for several ARES supported events.? FWIW, my net control folks said they couldn't tell the difference between it and the Yaesu speaker mic. MW / N4MEW |

no it sucks, at least when i was testing it talking to myself into another radio. i will get a friend of mine on a repeater this week and try it that way and get back to you. The audio was really light and the closer i spoke into it i could hear the air coming out of my mouth. ? Bill From: mayneerc

Nope. I had to uninstall, clean out the registry of its remnants and then reinstall to get it to work. It wouldn't display any data downloaded from the radio but would display data from a file but I couldn't turn the columns back on. The registry muck was required.

I guess i dont understand why there would be any problem using?any alternative dc power source and leave the battery in the radio? All any ht want's at the ext dc port is whatever the dc voltage the manufacturer suggest's, and the center pin + or - ? I wired up 2 -? 2.9ah 12 volt sla batteries in parallel?and mounted them on the back of my bicycle with a y connector and power up, charge my Yaesu VX-7R and cell phone without any problems. ? The way I understand it, and have been told, yes, you could use a 12 volt gell cell battery, but you definately want to take the battery pack out! Cause, like I said, I have been told, that the battery pack will get cooked! Correct me if I am wrong on this please!

FT-60 Commander not working on Seven x64

Impossible to work with the FT60 Commander with the x64 version of Seven. You get first the error 13 in the popup and then the progrma show a empty grid. Impossible to select the buttons or other functions.
In a virtual machien as 'Xp mode' this is ok. The problem seems to come from the version of programming tools (VB6) not support the X64 Os as Seven. |

My understanding is that this DC cord will allow you to charge the battery packs. There are 3rd party products which allow for this type of operation. Sadly, a quick google search didn't come up with the folks that I remembered could provide this. However, I am sure that if you keep looking around you'll find it.
