First visual inspection on my newly acquired Yaesu FT-101E. How's it look?

Hi everyone!

I recently purchased a Yaesu FT-101E/Yaesu FL-2100/Yaesu YS 60 all for the grand total of $250.? The gentleman told me everything works well.

I removed the cover and took lots of pics of the FT-101E.? It appears like a lot of sticky gum and dust on the components compared to the FL-2100 that appears to be like new.? I think it is possible the previous owner may have smoked...

Please share you thoughts and ideas on my FT-101E.

?

Thank you!

I'd like to suggest buying a high (120-150 lbs) pressure 12 V fuel pump and modifying a cheap air brush to make a pressure washer, fill a basin with 91% IPA and wash it down over the basin to collect and reuse the IPA. IPA, methanol and ethanol are the safest solvents for electronic devices and IPA the cheapest by far. That is how I will clean my FT-101E when I start to work on it.

Have Fun!

I took the meter, VFO and the power transformer out of the one I had to wash.? I used soapy water with pressure washer held a discrete distance from the workings.? The weather was hot then so outside dried okay but a warm oven with the heat source shut off works well too. The suggested wash medium works better if you want to get rid of the smoke smell as well as the sticky deposit. Years ago I did a NCX-3 that was as you described. Water just didn't do the job that time and I resorted to water and methanol as the last resort. Some plastic materials are difficult to clean without the suggested chemistry.? Gord, VE5UJ

I've taken tube radios to the car wash, but a bit leery of doing that with the PCB arrangement in this case. Which is the only reason I didn't suggest that myself.
