New Final Tubes.. How to Neutralize?
Good day FT101ers...? I have a FT-101EE that is due for Final replacements as I only can get 40W out of the rig right now and I got myself a pair of 6JS6C Tubes that were tested in a tube checker to be 95% good life.
Im reading the service manual page 4-12 were it talks about the neutralization, and get conflicting videos on youtube on how to perform this procedure.? ?In One it has the use of an oscilloscope (which I don't have) and the second one using a second radio (Which I also don't have)? Has anyone experienced problems using the method from the service manual, or has perhaps recorded a video of a neutralization effort per manual on youtube? Thanks |
Jose, I prefer the " cold neutralization " method by removing the ACC plug in the back to remove the heaters from the finals. Do you have a multimeter and a RF probe? If you don't have a probe, do you have a diode? You can measure the RF voltage at the antenna connector with a diode in series with the multimeter on DC volts. It is best to have a dummy load on the rig, not because you will be transmitting, just so it is terminated by 50 ohms during the neutralization. This method doesn't risk your finals and I have found it to work well.? 73 Don ve3ids? On Tue., Mar. 28, 2023, 2:21 p.m. Jose - KK7HSA, <palazuelos@...> wrote: Good day FT101ers...? I used both methods (hot and cold) and prefer the 'cold' method. If you don't have a scope or just a simple AM radio to monitor RF output then a Germanium diode terminated with a resistor would do the trick. Have a look here for the circuitry.? Awesome advice. I do have a Multimeter and a Dummy load to connect the output.? ? ? ? ?Wondering about the AM RAdio usage, as I have of course a Car AM , but I would presume I need an in frequency AM Radio receiver.?
I guess I'll try the cold method, with the removal of the ACC Plug as I'm inexperienced and don't want to spend 120 USD to get new tubes. |
Also an SDR receiver / dongle would work great. Can be bought for little money On Wed, 29 Mar 2023, 00:32 Jose - KK7HSA, <palazuelos@...> wrote: Awesome advice.
