I just took delivery of a fixer upper FRG-7. I did a full alignment but was still disappointment with the results of this receiver. So I put in on the bench and found that L101 (4 coils on a rod after the RF AMP) the first pin was not soldered to the coil wire. See picture:

After soldering I am now getting a 20-30 dB improvement in reception. At 1.5 MHz -55dBm gave me S9 before soldering now I get -78dBm giving me S9.
I have a question do others have this coil not soldered and only wire wrapped. I am just curious if this was Yaesu's manufacturing process or if this was just forgotten to be solder and thus a defect.
This is my first post so it might take time to post. Thanks for your time.
