Looking to buy a GAR-7 digital display

Hi, I'm looking to buy a GAR-7 digital display.
Any leads on this would be appreciated.

Re: What mod it this?

see if the board is routed through the ANL position of the mode switch

No Mike, there is not. A previous owner took out Q411 and some other components. There is more 'done' in de receiver. I will start to investigate and perhaps I rebuild with original parts or replacements.

Is there a front panel or any place where there is a switch to engage/disengage this mod board ?

Is there a front panel or any place where there is a switch to engage/disengage this mod board ? It does appear that the front panel mode switch is used. perhaps the ANL position switches in this board and it is a noise blanker

I have seen many filter upgrades in an FRG-7 but never one like that, also I do not see any ceramic or mechanical IF filter

Re: What mod it this?

Hi Kees,
Is that an RCA CA3011 IC? The board looks like an aftermarket 455 KHz improved filter board. Maybe someone has seen it before.

Re: What mod it this?

what is the part number on the IC on that board
this mod looks like it was done in the 1980s

What mod it this?

Hi all, I obtained a FRG-7 which is in working condition but needs still a lot of attention.

An extra PCB is added and I really do not know which mod this is. I hope you can help me!

There is also a lose red wire which could be connected but.....first I would like to know what mod this is so I can find more detailed information and connect it the way it should be connected. They also modified the power with a 7812 and....cut of the external 12V cabling. Cleaning rotary swithes needs to be done and....

Does anyone recognizes this?

Thanks for the reply, Lex.? The knobs on my FRG-7 are all fine but that power switch is going to go.? I can wait until you can get the complete switch done.

Lex,

Whenever you are ready to sell one of the red power switches let me know.? The one on my FRG-7 still works but is very loose. I sense that it is getting close to breaking.

The light switch knob is also a little lighter because the darker grey I have is almost the same color as the front panel.

The final result and I'm quite happy with it.?

For who is interested, I have added this story (and more) to my website :??

Re: A 3D printed FRG-7 light and power switch knob

That is excellent info Steve. And looking that there is a replacement (although not in grey) for the straight-skirt?levers I keep to the rounded-skirt levers.?

Saved the documents on my shack server for future reference.?

And thanks for the compliments.?

Update : Yesterday evening I printed a few more and found out that the margins where to small to make a good and easy fit (filament 3D printing isn't exact science). So today I will be looking at where I have to modify the design to make it fit better.?

Re: A 3D printed FRG-7 light and power switch knob

have a look at the document in /g/Yaesu-FRG-7/files/4%20-%20FRG-7%20Service%20Notes/FRG-7%20Switch%20Notes%20v1.0.pdf
for notes on replacement switch levers. These are not the same as the 'original' rounded-skirt levers, but ARE original on some (many?) receivers. A friend of
mine has an FRG-7 which he bought new here in Australia back in the 70's (still in original condition), and has the straight-skirt levers.

I second what Randy said.? Terrific work.

?

Makes me want a 3D printer even though my FRG-7 has all the original switches!

Hello all,

Got a new Frog in the workbench in a fare condition, but needed a lot of cleaning (dust and other unidentified stuff and gore) and?also new knobs on the light and power switch. Which are very hard to get.??So I pulled of the knobs of my other FRG-7's and it turned out there are 2 models of the knobs (left is original, right is the later model).

I liked the original model more so I fired up TinkerCad and started drawing. And the second prototype was spot on.

?Needs a little trimming on the edges, but looks good already and it functional (grey is original knob, white is 3D printed 0.12 layer, 100% infill).

Next steps :

1.??? order roll of red PLA to print the power button.

2.??? print a few more to see if it really is working.

3.??? publish STL file on my website (link will be post here).

When the results are reproducible, I will post the design on my website (and the STL in the file archive of this group).

So when you get your hands on a FRG-7 without a light or power switch knob, you know can print your own.?
