YaMoRC Documentation is not that good yet
Yep, sorry, it's an ongoing process to refine the manuals. That's one of the most difficult parts of the whole process.

?but there are some very helpful people on a couple forums and Facebook
And here now as well :)?
For some Answers:
I like the Digitrax transponding feature, but I see the YaMoRC kit supports RailCom and assume that would provide the same or better functionality.
It is similar, has some other nice features like reading Loco CVs via POM
This may be a stupid question - If you can connect the BXP88 units to YaMoRC would the RailCom signal still pass through to the command station?
Yes, the YaMoRC kit is transparent on the LocoNet level. It (re)distributes to all busses, not only all LocoNet types: Physical, USB and LAN but also on other protocols if there is a suited command in the respective potocol.
I am also trialing iTrain on a MacBook Air. I understand YaMoRC is compatible with Mac and I assume it interacts well with iTrain?
Yes, the command stations (including the DR5000 + YD9401 upgrade) are recognized under MAC. With a YD9401 onboard also configuring the CS is possible through a web interface.
A sample/demo you'll find here:?http://www.yamorc.com/text/html/YD9401.html
