YaMoRC in Australia

Edited

Hi,?
I am using my upgraded DR5000 (with the YD9401 module) with TC9 Silver in Adelaide Australia. Two questions?
1. Are there any other YaMoRC users in Australia? (or DR5000 wanting to upgrade)
2. I am looking to upgrade my TC9 to TC10. It seems quite a ‘route’ to do so and quite frankly the uber control exercised by our dear friend seems troublesome. The consensus seems iTrain Standard is the best alternative, I am interested to experiences of anyone else that has moved from TC to iTrains as some opinions on forums seem to to me to take on Republican v’s Democrat proportions

Modelling HO scale
South Australian Railways in the 1960/70
reasonably large layout, but not complicated.
ps I am visiting the Netherlands in September, staying in Nunspeet, any recommendations for model railway visits welcome. Love Rotterdam. ?

This looks like a can of worms with a choice of tin openers.
I am in Melbourne and I have a YD7001 and a YD7001E. There were too many instances where I wanted to test or configure something in my study but the YD7001 was bolted onto the layout in the garage. When a YD7001E became available earlier this month I decided to make the investment just so I could configure modules and LAN settings etc without visiting the cold garage in the evening.

Last year I was looking at iTrain vs Train Controller and decided to get both. Stupid decision financially, but it lets me play off the pros and cons in an extended way.
Here's how I see things so far:
  • iTrain seems to be quite popular with YaMoRC users but both should work seamlessly with YaMoRC and JMRI using LAN rather than USB.
  • Both iTrain and TC have a lot of YouTube tutorials and seem to be good products with active forums.
  • iTrain provides a lot of signalling options out of the box. In my case the USA aspects are covered whereas I need to delve a little more into TC to configure them. Only Gold would let me do that I believe. Worth studying since you have South Australian signals to deal with.
  • TC provides support for the iPad if I want to have control from the layout. I am working through not having traditional control panels and switches but using TC or iTrain to switch turnouts locally for trains I want to actually run myself. iTrain supports Android tablets but not iPad yet until the next major release. TC supports both flavours of tablet.
  • The iTrain developer is ready to answer questions and I find the English unambiguous compared to other forums where English might be the second language. I do find I need to ask lots of dumb questions to make sure of my understanding. Even with a background in electronics and computers some of the terminology from Europe doesn't translate to my English only brain.
  • I find the TC layout editor really easy to use without familiarization. I was looking at enabling Railcom but the YaMoRC modules were delayed and I decided to ditch ESU decoders anyway.
  • I haven't calibrated any locomotives on either system yet. I've discussed momentum and ESU's interesting F9 features with the iTrain developer. I've since started to use Soundtraxx Blunami decoders for their configuration convenience.
  • Automated train control seems to be something that USA folk don't want very much. They are very operation oriented and assume manpower can handle all the requirements. But I have a moderate sized layout that is loop to loop and want a fair variety of staged unit trains to occupy the layout while I run a train manually. I am often likely to be alone when running the layout.
  • The upshot is that the train controlling software and the YaMoRC people are all European. Getting it to work on USA practices has been fun but so far both iTrain and TrainController 10 Gold seem great products.

Thanks mate, all interesting info. I appreciate the effort you put in. Like you I want to be able to have visitors run switching jobs while commuters and thru freights are run by the PC. Agree with your assessment of our US brothers ( and sisters)

As a matter of interest - check out Chadwick YouTube channel. He is English and vastly entertaining. He had TC 9 Silver and was horrified at the upgrade to TC 10 Gold. The pricing is very geo-centric and I've read a few comments too.
Even though Chadwick was checking out the month long iTrain trial he went with TC 10 Gold. I guess the moral of the story is that if you like TC then why change? I got SmartHand and Collection as well. His stuff works really well and I got some nice pictures of my locos imported to the control panel.

I use YD8008 x 4 on my layout and find them great. I'm located in Sydney. I don't use either TC or iTrain but did consider it but decided I will just control the layout myself. I don't model any particular period but have 99% OO UK stock.

Iam in?Adelaide.
Have DR5000.
DCC EX.
Itrain.

I am an avid follower of Charlie Bishop, I like ?his no nonsense style and have learned much from him. Am working my way thru the iTrain videos. Done 11, about 100 to go.

I like the YaMoRC upgrade, but our market is too small for them to set up here. We had Digikeijs outlet thru Ridgepointe Rail and others, but now is either DCC Automation in the UK or Iron Planet Hobbies in the US.?

It would be good to have a local supply.

Hi Andrew, we should catch up and compare notes. I upgraded my DR5000 about a year ago. It works fine with all the older DIgikeijs modules including booster, 4088, 4018 etc. It is a massive improvement in Wi-Fi and LAN capability IMHO.?
Be interested in the iTrains connections to the DR5000.?

Hi Reg,

Im in northern NSW using the updated YD7001. I don't use iTrain or similar as I like to be directly involved. More a shunter than anything else. Originally building in the USA, now in Oz, originally from the Netherlands :-)
Cheers, Rene

Hi Andrew the rest of the addr is gmail etc etc.

Hi all,

I have a DR5000 which I'd ideally like to update using the new YaMoRC WiFi module, however importing one out of the UK or US is costly just for the one piece of hardware.

I'm based in Sydney (Australia) and run Buckambool Model Trains. I supply several brands of DCC decoders and components, and had a good relationship with Ridgepointe Rail - I referred quite a few customers to him.

I've not had any luck so far in my dealer application with Karst and YaMoRC, not sure why they're not interested to have any dealers in Australia... I have also enquired with YaMoRC through a colleague in the UK who is currently a dealer with no luck...

Wish me luck all!

Cheers,

Jarryd

I have a spare YD9401 if you’re interested. Unopened. I had two sent over from the Netherlands from family over there.

I just purchased some from YouChoos in the UK, I was asked by other club members why I was buying from the UK, were there no distributors in Aus.

I might look to buy a couple through YouChoos, I'm their Australian distributor for sound files, and was purchasing some SPROG programmers through them prior to becoming a dealer myself!

Thanks all,

Jarryd
