USB Opto-Isolator Converter
The DR5088RC unit has a warning about not plugging a USB cable into the unit unless you disconnect the DCC power first. Most other modules do not have this warning. ? |
开云体育If you are using the DR5088RC with a network connected command station e.g. Z21 then the opto-isolators are not required for single modules, they would be required to connect multiple DR5088RC to the same computer at the same time.
Similarly if your DR5000 is not connected via USB to the same computer as the DR5088RC at the same time it isn’t required.

Maybe I'm mistaken but I have several DR5088RC's and programmed them through an un-isolated USB but with the DCC power off - that is the AC power to the entire model railway is powered off. I have also pre-programmed my DR5088's on the bench before installation, power derived from the USB port only.
That said, I can see there would be problems with USB power and DCC power on the same device so I am VERY careful to make sure that that situation does not arise. Incidentally, as my last Windows machine with the Digikeijs software is not in the railroom, I use VirtualHere USB server software on a networked Raspberry Pi3 in the railroom with a VirtualHere client on the Windows machine. A bit more isolation I suppose but it works perfectly on the DR5000, DR5088's, DR5033 (not at the same time obviously) but I havn't yet tried it remotely on my DR5052. |
