Is this layout connection scheme possible?

Edited

Hello,?

I am new to this forum, so please excuse me if I make mistakes regarding the group's conduct.

Some time ago I bought a DR5000 in order to start a new digital layout. I like the idea of being able to manually control locos with my handheld devices and I really like the user interface of Z21 app. But I like to use my phone and tablet without having to disconnect from my home wireless network and connect to DR5000. Loosing internet access is no option. I designed a scheme you can see below, which describes best what I want from my new layout and if it is possible to have all these functions at the same time.

If anyone can help me with any advice is most welcome.??

Thank you!

100% feasible - it is exactly what I do using a Z21 and iTrain :)

Hi,
Thanks for answering. I presume you are using the scheme below. Meaning all your wireless devices you have at home are connected the the router that came with the Z21. It is an solution. But in this case two more question arise:
1. Can I replace the tp-link router that comes with the Z21 with a better model (one with more wireless range and more features), and if it can be done, where do I find the settings to work with the Z21;
2. Can the DR5000 be in place of the Z21?

Thanks!

I do not use the TP Link router that came with the Z21, I use my own home router and that way I only have one network at home. I simply changed the Z21 fixed IP Address (default 192.168.0.111) to one that is on my network. The other difference is that I use Loconet devices (from Digikeijs) and not Roco as Digikeijs is much cheaper :)

You can use a DR5000, but personally I prefer the Z21 as I find it more robust and reliable than the DR5000 that I had.

Hi Iain

I'm thinking of upgrading iTrain from Plus to Pro. Apart from other things it gives the chance to connect iTrain to my Network via ethernet from the host computer.

I can then use the iTrain app. Do you have any experience of the app?
I'm thinking that the iTrain network will give me increased facilities compared with just the Digikeijs wifi.

p.s. I do not have a Z21 CS.

The iTrain app comes in 2 flavours one of which (Android) is full featured with a decent reproduction of the switchboard letting you see what is where. You don’t get this (yet) with iOS due to the the limitations of iOS but Xander thinks he may have found a way to reproduce the switchboard in IOS and hopes to have this ready later this year.

Both versions allow you to control trains with reasonable ease.

Using a DR5000 or Z21 or whatever doesn’t matter to iTrain - as king as iTrain can connect it will work.

Does this answer the question?
