Is anyone using a Protothrottle with the YD7001 ?
Hi
One of our club members just received his Protothrottle.? We are only using the LAN connection on the YD7001 to access it - the integrated WIFI on the YD7001 is turned off.? We followed the instructions to set up the Protothrottle's wireless adapter config.txt file to use withrottle, configured the SSID and password for the router, and the IP address and port number of the WiThrottle server on the YD7001.? We cannot get the wireless adapter for the Protothrottle to connect to our wireless network and hence to the YD7001.? I cannot see the Protothrottle wireless adapter join our WIFI network (per the router monitoring software).? Note, our WIFI network for the train room is not connected to the internet, if someone thinks this could be our problem. Thanks for any ideas Jay Lennox - Toronto |
I am using the YD7001 and the ProtoThrottle using the NCE/XPressNet adapter. It is my understanding that this is the recommended connection for the DR5000/YD7001.
?
I would assume that it is possible to use the Digitrax version that connects via WiThrottle, but I have not tried it.
?
A troubleshooting suggestion, can you get any other devices to connect to the YD7001 via the WiThrottle server to verify that you have this connection setup properly?
?
Thanks,
Heath

Thanks for the reply.? The member who has the ProtoThrottle bought the ProtoThrottle Receiver for ESU CabControl, JMRI WiFi Throttle and Digitrax LNWI - MRBW-WiFi.? He has ESU CabControl at home. We have successfully connected and used the following over our router to the LAN port and WiThrottle server on the YD7001:? UWT-100, UWT-50, Engine Driver on Android and WiThrottle on iPhone.? We have also used WlanMaus over the same router to LAN connection.? So I know the setup works. As I said, I can tell that the MRBW-WiFi receiver is not connecting to the network - in the routers monitoring app I can see my cell phone and my UWT-50 connecting, but the MRBW-WiFi receiver does not connect to the network. The member is going to contact Iowa Scaled Engineering to see if they have any ideas based on some photos he took, and if not what detailed debug info we an collect for them. Thank you again for your response.? Jay Lennox - Toronto |
Jay, It's not the lack of internet, as I've used the PT on a network with no internet at train shows to connect to an NCE system. I have not personally used PT with the YD7001 yet, I did use it with the DR5000 via JMRI WiThrottle server with the DR5000 connected as a DCS100 via a USB virtual COM port, not directly to the system. Since you've verified that your WiThrottle server works, and the PT bridge isn't pulling an IP, you most likely have something wrong with the config file. It's not even connecting, so it's not likely to be the mode, but something with the SSID or password. If you still can't get it to connect, re-image the SD card with?the firmware and start all over setting up the config file, as that's your most likely failure point. I got the new PT Wi-Fi bridge, and it is MUCH easier to troubleshoot than the old one, which is basically just taking a shot in the dark.
