Alec - I had a similar issue with the DR5000 and its compatibility with the TCS Wifi throttles. Unless you can upgrade your DR5000 with the YaMoRC YD9401 wifi/lan module, you’ll need to use a Digitrax LNWI (also available in the UK) to use the TCS throttle. This negates the need to use JMRI as the TCS throttles will natively support the Digitrax LNWI interface (which has capacity to support up to 4 TCS throttles at a time).? |
Iain, Of course the DR5000 is a DCC controller (command station), but that doesn't address whether it supports LCC- it does not. Nor does the YaMoRC YD9401, but that will work with the UWTs via WiThrottle. If you upgrade the DR5000 with the YD9401 (to get a YD7001) the UWT throttles will definitely work.? I have had up to 10 UWT-100s and UWT-50s attached using an external router to access the YD7001 command station.? If you use the YD7001's internal WIFI, you will not be able to support as many throttles - I have gotten up to 6 without problems,? but did not test higher. We have used both the YD7001 WIFI and LNWI to attach throttles simultaneously. The only function in the UWTs that is not supported by the YD7001 is the steal function.? I worked with Karst over the last 6 months to add release, distpatch, etc and to sort out other behaviour differences between using LNWIs or JMRI WiThrottle with the UWTs. The only thing I have against the LNWIs is that if a user access the command station via them and then leaves, that slot in the LNWI is not freed until the LNWI is powered off and back on. So yes they support 4 throttles, but only the first 4 without a recycle of the LNWI. Hope this helps.? Jay Lennox - Toronto |
Alec, Avoid the LNWI, it's a very limited and poorly implemented piece of hardware. Not only can they not release the Wi-Fi "slots" for throttles, they can't connect to other networks and they use a slightly different version of the WiThrottle protocol from JMRI. The most logical solution would be to get the YD9401 upgrade chip as you get WiThrottle plus a whole lot more. The results Jay got are really impressive. WiThrottle hardware devices are really only for a few throttles at a time anyway, if you want to run a lot more, just run real JMRI.
