?

Hello to all the 60’ decade peer year coordinators. Firstly I would like to thank all ten of you for offering to act as peer year coordinators for your respective starting year cohorts.

?

We only have two weeks before bookings close for the NRL Grand Final luncheon to be held at the Wagga Rules Club on 27th September. A great opportunity to catch up with some of your mates from 55-65 years ago while listening to three outstanding Yanconians who excelled in each of three of the major winter sports in Australia.

?

The Foundation would appreciate it if you were able to push out this opportunity over the next week to try and muster up final numbers to ensure the day is a great success.

?

Regards

Jim Geltch

David Barnhill (1981-1987)

Dave attended Yanco from 1981-86. In 1987, he moved to Canberra and made 41 top-grade appearances for the Raiders from 1989,?including two grand finals. He then moved to St George, playing 112 games over five seasons.?Dave concluded his NRL career with the Roosters, making 58 appearances, bringing his NRL first-grade game total to 211. ? ?

He finished his career in the UK Super League with Leeds, playing 33 games. Overall, Dave participated in five first-grade grand finals (four consecutively), attaining one victory with Canberra in 1990. ??

Dave became part of State of Origin folklore during the 1995 series when he went blow-for-blow with Billy Moore, endearing himself to Blues fans forever. He appeared for NSW 9 times and represented Ireland at the 2000 Rugby League World Cup

Image removed by sender.

Peter Green (1987-1992)

Peter stands out as one of the few Yanconians to have participated in three University Shield finals, achieving victories in both 1990 and 1992. A naturally gifted athlete, Peter excelled in all sports during his time at Yanco and made history as the school's first-ever AFL player.

At the end of 1992, he joined the Sydney Swans, but a knee injury forced him to miss the entire 1993 season. In 1994, Peter entered the AFL draft and was selected by Carlton as the 35th pick, though he only played one game for the senior team.

The following year, he moved to Central Districts in the SAFL, where he spent three seasons competing in the top grade..

Jim Douglas (1952-1956)

Jim was born in Sydney and attended Yanco Ag for five years and School Captain in his final year.

Upon leaving school he won a scholarship with the Rosella Co. and undertook a two-year course at Hawkesbury Agricultural College. Jim then moved to Melbourne and eventually linked up with the Melbourne Club in the Rugby Victoria's Premier Club Competition. ?

In 1961 he debuted for Victoria and the following year ran out for his state against the All Blacks. Jim was then invited to the Wallaby trials for the return tour to New Zealand.

In a series of dour struggles across a week of matches, Jim was a shining light in the 'Probables' vs. 'Possibles' trials. The press of the day wrote that the matches "could almost be forgotten except for the performance of Victorian right-winger Jim Douglas. A "don't care" attitude seemed to prevail and only his grit and determination on the flank made the crowd sit up and take notice. When the side was named the following day Jim, "with a dashing game" in the trial, had won a spot in the squad.?

In the first test Bruce Harland was unable to take his place due to an ankle injury, Jim Boyce shifted to outside centre and Jim was called up for his Test debut. His form improved as the tour progressed and duly held his spot for the final two Tests. ?

In 1963 he played for Victoria against South Australia a week before the Wallaby trials for the tour to South Africa. Unfortunately, he broke his collarbone and was ruled out of contention. Remarkably a year later he broke a bone in his wrist during a club match that made him unavailable for the trials ahead of the tour to New Zealand.

Jim played three Tests for Australia in a one-year international career. He is Wallaby number 477 and to date, Yanco's sole Wallaby representative.??
