For organizers: | ? ? Dear Colleagues, ? Please join us on Tuesday, October 22nd at 12:30pm for a discussion on Meditation & Mindfulness. 60 to 80% of visits to primary care physicians have a stress-related component. Stress is ubiquitous, and its role when excessive or persistent as a major contributor to morbidity and mortality is well recognized. More Americans than ever are taking prescription medications for chronic health conditions, many of which have a lifestyle component (unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, lack of stress management techniques). There is no formal training or curriculum in medical school or residency trainings regarding the Science and use of Mind Body practices and their application in clinical practice as well as for provider self-care. Most clinicians have not received any training in this area during their career.? ? There is an ever-increasing need for health care providers to counsel patients effectively around lifestyle changes and stress management so that patients can feel more empowered to manage their chronic health conditions. ? Studies have also shown that physicians that practice self-care and incorporate Lifestyle Medicine pillars into their own lives are more likely to counsel patients about the importance of making lifestyle changes for management of their chronic health conditions. Techniques and skills to build resiliency to stress have also been shown to be effective tools to improve wellbeing. ? ? We hope to see you all! ? Regards, Your Physician Education ?
