Dear Colleagues,

Please join us on Thursday, February 6th at 12:30pm for a discussion on heart failure care by Dr. Sirtaz Adatya. Heart failure represents a growing public health challenge, with the lifetime risk now estimated at 1 in 4 individuals and prevalence projected to affect 8.5 million Americans by 2030. Timely identification and treatment of congestion are pivotal in reducing hospital visits and improving outcomes. As health systems pivot to care models centered around home and ambulatory settings, the development of specialized care pathways is crucial to ensure seamless, effective, and patient-centered care.

We hope to see you all!

Regards,

Your SCL Physician Education Team

Dear Colleagues,

?

Please join us on Tuesday, January 14th at 12:30pm for a discussion on Longevity & Lifestyle Medicine by Dr. Linda Shiue. People are on a quest for longevity and wellness. Longevity hacks are getting a lot of attention. But consider this: more than half of Americans have chronic conditions including heart disease and stroke, diabetes, hypertension, and cancer, and more than a quarter have multiple chronic conditions. The prevailing medical model treats these conditions with medications. Culinary Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine focus instead on prevention, treatment and even reversal of chronic conditions with personalized, culturally tailored, whole person approaches to health. This talk will present the scientific evidence for Culinary Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine approaches to whole person care and how these approaches not only empower you to improve your health, but also promote wellness and longevity.

?

We hope to see you all!

Regards,

Your Physician Education

Obituary

Hello All?
Well, only one man of Tony's stature could write his obituary in advance .
He is in? a class of his own ..I will miss him dearly .
He went to LA where he has a place and some family to visit ,unfortunately he developed?pneumonia that he could not get over despite all?the medical help .
He was surrounded by his loved ones and passed peacefully on New Year's day .
There will only be celebration?of life for close family and friends .
So I propose we do that at our next meeting .(not tomorrow)

The passing of Tony made me think as to how we want to handle the news of our inevitable? deaths?
It has been detective?work trying to find the names and contact of the family .
I await your proposals.

?

Regards,

Your Physician Education

Ukrainian-American charity coordinators are seeking the assistance of any psychiatrists or other qualified mental health providers to donate their expertise in helping to develop guidelines for group focused discussion sessions for Ukrainian veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Sadly, there are not enough mental health providers in Ukraine to cope with the massive number of depression and PTSD patients throughout their nation. The basic plan is to have veterans who are successfully dealing with their PTSD symptoms help those who are not faring as well. We are envisioning something similar in nature to a ?"12 step" program, where the focus is on mutual support. Many veterans with PTSD are not getting sufficient treatment and are resorting to self medication and isolation. This is negatively affecting family relationships during an already incredibly difficult time for this struggling nation. Time spent on the program is entirely up to the individual volunteer. Any interested providers are requested to contact the campaign coordinator, Ken Witkowich (352) 287-2536 or UkraineNeedsUs@... (seven days a week EST, early to late). This is an opportunity to help save lives and help save families. Please consider helping. Thank you.

2025 UNUM Rate Increase Information

Hello all?
You can read this before our meeting tomorrow to mull it over .?

Date: Tue, Dec 3, 2024 at 2:59?PM
Subject: 2025 UNUM Rate Increase Information
To: amirghadid@... <amirghadid@...>

Hi Dr. Hadid,

?

Per our conversation, I¡¯ve provided a general overview of the UNUM LTC Rate Increase details. Please feel free to pass this along to your fellow physician colleagues. If they have any questions or would like to speak to us, please feel free to provide them with my phone number and our TPMG specific email address, TPMGBenefits@....

?

Who is receiving a rate increase?

  • Any insured enrolled on the Compound Inflation rider is receiving a rate increase. If you are not enrolled on the compound inflation rider, your rate is not increasing and there is no action needed.

?

How much are rates increasing by?

  • Approximately 14% for 2025 and the same for 2026, and 2027
  • Some insureds rates may be increasing more or less than 14.4% and that is due to insureds age and current coverage amount.

?

When is the rate increase going into effect?

  • January 1st, 2025.

?

How can I find out if my rate is increasing and what it is increasing by?

  • Insureds can call Hannah Sanchez from The Partners Group (TPMG¡¯s broker) at 503-941-2458 or email Hannah and team at TPMGBenefits@....

?

What options do insureds have for this increase?

  • Do nothing and accept the increased rate effective 1/1/2025.
  • Drop the compound inflation rider.
    • If compound inflation rider is dropped, the current inflated benefit amount gets ¡°parked¡± and when an insured goes to file a claim in the future, they will still receive that inflated benefit amount for the duration they are enrolled on (3 or 6 years).
    • Monthly benefit will no longer inflate, and premiums will not increase effective 1/1/2025.
    • If interested in this option, please contact Hannah and she can reach out to UNUM to provide you with what the new rate would be if you want to drop your compound inflation.
  • Take the Non-Forfeiture option.
    • If you take the non-forfeiture option, you discontinue paying premiums but would still receive a reduced lifetime maximum benefit which would be equal to the greater of one facility monthly benefit payment (the base benefit you are enrolled on), or the total amount of premium that was paid into the policy.

?

Attached is the Change Form that an insured would need if they wanted to make any changes. This form can be completed and then sent back to me directly and I can submit it to UNUM on an insured¡¯s behalf.

?

Please let me know if there are any additional questions.

?

Thank you so much!

?

Santa Clara Physician Education Presents- Lifestyle Medicine Series: Human Health through the Lens of the Microbiome

November 21st

12:30pm-1:30pm

MS Teams

?

Speaker: Susan Lynch, MD

Dr. Lynch¡¯s research focuses primarily on the gut and airway microbiome and chronic inflammatory disease, particularly allergy and asthma. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Microbiology from University College Dublin, Ireland, before completing her postdoctoral training as a Dean¡¯s Fellow in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Stanford University. She has published over 200 articles, including early work providing evidence that human infant gut microbiome composition and metabolic dysfunction relates to subsequent atopy and asthma development in childhood. Her studies have led to the identification of specific gut microbial genes and that predict risk of disease in childhood and demonstrated that their products promote canonical features of immune dysfunction associated with allergic inflammatory disease development. She has served on a National Academy of Science and Engineering committee and as an American Society of Microbiology, Distinguished Lecturer (2017-2019). She was awarded the Rebecca Buckley Lectureship from the AAAAI in 2015, the Odell Lecture in 2022 and named as one of Foreign Policy Magazine¡¯s "Global Thinkers" in 2016. She is the Associate Director of the Microbiome in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research Program, serves on the executive committee of ImmunoX and the Precision Medicine initiative at UCSF and is the Director of the UCSF Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine. She also co-founded Siolta Therapeutics Inc. a biotech company whose lead microbial live biotherapeutic for the prevention of childhood atopy and asthma is currently in human trials.

Learning Objectives:?

  • Appreciate how the human microbiome differs across body niches
  • Define a mechanism by which gut microbes may influence health at a remote organ site
  • Identify therapeutic interventions targeting the microbiome
