Re: Si pin Detectors
Not back then Taray, this was 25 years ago, before my nuclear radiation hobby. Back then the hobby was ionospheric ionization and its effects on radio waves, so the gear was different. Geo

Re: Si pin Detectors
Geo Did you collect any rock samples ?or did any handheld measurement? . Anyway I find it rather difficult on family trips. The heat and humidity is sometimes unbearable in SE Asia. Taray

Re: Mini X-ray xrf
Yes that is what I mean. Mine is set op so rays are at 90 degrees to detector, the samples is in the rays but set at 45 degrees so the new rays go to the detector. our yield should increase many times

Re: Mini X-ray xrf
Geo This involves moving the detector slightly away from the sample and realigning the specimen at an angle such that the incoming beam and detector are looking at the same sample broad

Re: Si pin Detectors
Correct and there are other parts that can only be purchased at Amptek. Total cost for mine, just for all parts was $1800 USD plus shipping, and no housing etc.Geo

Re: Mini X-ray xrf
It looks good Taray, one thing to try, repeat the setup but put the sample away from the source, sort of like a mirror that the source and sensor are both looking at the same surface?Geo

Sorry if I gave the impression that the working system costs $1200. That is just the components off eBay and you take all the risk. Of course then they need to be integrated and configured. I have

Re: Testing for Cd in Zn Ore.
Geo, Pu is best detected with an HPGe detector or via a Fildler using Am-241 as the surrogate. For an alpha detector anything over 20 dpm alpha would go to an alpha spec to determine if it was Pu or
