Re: Smithsonite with Uranium
One could hardly call that a peak. This is going to need the x-ray source to see what¡¯s there. Dud Sent: Sunday, February 16, 2020 7:48 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [XRF] Smithsonite with

Re: Smithsonite with Uranium
No this was internal radiation only. I'll post an XRF soon.Do you detect a small peak very near 8.64 for Zn?Geo

Re: Smithsonite with Uranium
No convincing Zn peaks in either the Si-PIN or the CdTe. Were you using Am241 to excite? Charles

no but I put up a picture of the notes on the box, on the Smithsonite thread.. I added W/U myself. Maybe you recognize the second word in the original note?Geo

Attached is a better scan as it ran overnight. I do believe Zn peak is starting to show. Nothing like real XRF tho in this case. Also a pic of the box it came in, I bough it long ago because it was

Re: Mystery of wulfenite Pb(MoO4) from Globe, AZ
Charles, that is a good piece of detective work. It is probably the coronadite that has the U. We found a small late stage vein of coronadite in one of the samples from Petaca that was scanned with

Yes uranium for sure Charles.... Just ran a scan and pinpointed uranium right away by the clear Th-234 peaks and Pb X-Rays like you showed me the other day. Thanks for that. George

Re: Mystery of wulfenite Pb(MoO4) from Globe, AZ
OK I have one. It needs a good testing with this updated gear, then I can send it for you to test and analyze. One thing I'm curious about is radium replacement in a crystal. This is really obvious

I do not have radioactive Smithsonite in my collection. If there is such a thing it is probably U in the matrix. Charles

Mystery of wulfenite Pb(MoO4) from Globe, AZ
Normally wulfenite is not radioactive but I found one a couple of years ago that is slightly so and I added it to my collection. The most curious thing about this specimen is that it is pitch black

Here are 2 more, these are XRF, the 63 second one is a XRF calibration run with Sr element, then the long run was XRF of the Trinitite. There were clues in the earlier? gamma spec that indicated a
