Nickel in Indochinite Tektites, from here or there?
Taray,
?
As mentioned in my original post,?? I experimented with various samples using an Am241 exciter to study Compton and Raleigh (coherent) backscatter.? The samples were aluminum, copper, and water.? All three showed something near the Te K line at about 27.5 keV.? lt did not appear to vary with the samples at all.? Looking at my results, I think that the big increase in reflected, coherent scatter due to low Z occurs below about 25 keV.?? If you really want to see what the system interference (below 25 keV) is coming from your source, direct it into a distilled water sample.?
?
My Aluminum sample was a 6061 alloy, which is pretty clean, metallurgically.? Copper was the only alloying element I saw.
?
I think you are on the right track regarding Te.

Mike Good input on the scatter study Well it appears that scattering can accentuate??minor peaks in bg??from outside and within the detector? Will wait for reply from Amptek Like to know the purity nature of silicon in si-pin detector BTW just??thinking what??KV just below??the critical voltage of rhodium anode to??knock off Rh interference in your tektite spectrum? It will??eliminate the hump below Ba??to large extent? Thanks On Saturday, August 17, 2024, 11:16 PM, Mike L. <loughlin3@...> wrote:

There is small labeling?mistake in my tektites and tellurium thermimo xray exciter pic which??I overlooked. Red??is??my big tektite Green Mike’s tektite with Rh characteristic hump? Blue tellurium metal? On Sunday, August 18, 2024, 8:14 AM, taray singh via groups.io <sukhjez@...> wrote:

开云体育Taray, The binding energy of Rh is 23 keV so anything below that will eliminate the K’s. The x-ray brem will start at that voltage and peak about a third or so down. Dud ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of taray singh via groups.io

Taray, We use standard electronics grade silicon to make our chips.? Very high purity, and no Tellurium is used in our silicon based detectors.? There are a few heavier elements that are used within the detector that you may see if you look for higher energy elements, but I am not aware of using any tellurium.? We do what we can to keep the spectrum as clean as possible, but there will always be some background depending on how you collect the data.?? ????????????????????????????? If you would like to send me a copy of the .mca spectrum showing the impurities, I can take a look and see if I can identify anything present. Rob Reply from Amptek?
