Here is an xrf and visible reflectance for Nd magnet and Nd oxide powder? 1 Nd magnet was derusted and demagnetized by sandpaper and flame torch heating. This magnet rust is likely from??uncoated iron . The Nd oxide powder is bluish grey and appears to contaminated with Zr impurities? My 60 setup X-ray have upper limit about 40 keV ? Seems under -voltaged with no obvious external changes? like oil leaks on the outer casing. Could be due??to tube arcing ? Will continue using with caution? Ref spectra of both Pr and Nd oxide together showing some differences in spectra This ref spectra were done through transparent plastic covers due to risk of contamination? But??does resembles online reflectance database as shown here Alternatively by transmission in a cuvette after dissolving with dil HCl Both methods can complement each other Buttons like Nd magnets may be fun having around? The strong magnetic field induced can disrupt vital electronics??unless demagnetized? Can also be dangerous? in the wrong hands and sizes. Some Nd magnets can jump toward each other from a short distance? Maybe not bad as being in an MRI room. Larger ones, a few inches on edge, can damage a finger . I have some lying on my table which can be annoying at times Imagine swallowing one button. No problem..can pass it out Swallow 2 hours apart can be a medical emergency with gut perforation? Can be a good script for Hollywood The rest is left to your imagination? This magnet is Nd /Iron/Boron symbolically in the pic MCA files for Demagnetized Nd magnet and the raw powder Symbolic pic showing constituents of magnet?
