Re: beginner question
I use 50kV, 1.6uA, and perhaps 30 seconds of exposure. However, it very
much depends on your setup and what elements you are looking for.

beginner question
hi:
I was curious as to what are typical xray requirements:
Roughly
what kV
x.xx mA
y.yy seconds of xray exposure
is needed for a typical xrf measurement ?

Re: Nickel in Indochinite Tektites, from here or there?
Taray,
The binding energy of Rh is 23 keV so anything below that will eliminate the K’s. The x-ray brem will start at that voltage and peak about a third or so down.

There is small labeling?mistake in my tektites and tellurium thermimo xray exciter pic which??I overlooked.
Red??is??my big tektite
Green Mike’s tektite with Rh characteristic hump?

Good input on the scatter study
Well it appears that scattering can accentuate??minor peaks in bg??from outside and within the detector?

Taray,
As mentioned in my original post,?? I experimented with various samples using an Am241 exciter to study Compton and Raleigh (coherent) backscatter.? The samples were aluminum, copper, and

Re: Nickel in Indochinite Tektites, from here or there?
Taray,
Yes, I was aware characteristic x-rays are not required.? You often see florescence in Gamma Spectroscopy.? My very first xrf experiment was with a NaI probe, Silver Coin, and a Radium watch

Since present in both xray and buttons points to si-pin detector as possible source?

Re: Nickel in Indochinite Tektites, from here or there?
I managed to find my old Te metal and Al mca files to make a comparison.
Te like peaks are seen in Al with xray and Am241 exciter
More obvious when florescent? yield is low and higher scatter

Re: Nickel in Indochinite Tektites, from here or there?
Mike,
The Rh K lines are at 20keV and sit on the Bremsstrahlung (Compton) continuum which is generated from the electron beam breaking energy which produces X-ray’s off the anode. It is dependent

Re: Nickel in Indochinite Tektites, from here or there?
Taray,
I’m going to hit the rock shop and pick up a tektite and see what I get. Te just doesn’t show up that often so I’m curious and a Rb Sr sum peak doesn’t quite fit either.

Re: Nickel in Indochinite Tektites, from here or there?
Dud,
This may be a stupid question.? If Rh is the anode (target?)?? why are there so many counts above the Rh Ka1 line?

Re: Nickel in Indochinite Tektites, from here or there?
Very nice work!? There does seem to be some variation in all of these with regard to the Fe/Ni ratios, which I find interesting.?? Any idea why Rb,Sr, and Zr lines appear?? I am traveling now, but
