New G106 review from K8MRD radio on YouTube
3
A new review for the G106 is now available as of 8/19 on YouTube . I wish I could say it was 100% positive. Hopefully a firmware update will correct the issues found by K8MRD. -- Thanks, Randy AB9GO randy.ab9go@...

YouTube Reviews - to be taken with grain of salt
2
Many YouTuber Reviewers are more about being on camera, being sensational or controversial and hearing themselves talk then offering fair and objective reviews for their followers. I purchased a G106 upon it's release and after a dozen contacts I am satisfied I did NOT waste my money. The G106 is a entry level QRP transciever and for $300 does a nice job. Is it perfect? No, but what is? I've owned and built a very large number of QRP radios in my 40 plus years and have paid more and gotten less features and performance than the G106 is offering. The display is bright and readable even in daylight, which most rigs are not. The bandscope is useful too. The receiver is quite sensitive and offers good selectivity. There is no ringing even using the 50 Hz filter. I don't like the lack of RF gain or AGC adjustment nor lack of Power out adjustment. However, many radios in this price range do not offer these features either. Neither do I like having to plug headphones into the microphone but I solved that by making an adapter (see my previous post). If you take the time to do some feature comparisons of other available QRP radios in this price range I believe you will find this a reasonably priced radio. I am happy so far with my decision to buy the G106. If Xiegu continues firmware developement as it did with the G90 this radio will just get better. I find most often its better to make up my own mind about a radio then depend solely on a YouTube reviewer. If you don't like it once you try it there are several popular online options to sell and recoup your money. 73, 72, Pete WK8S

G106 usage experience
6
Hi All, After all the negative press, I think we can safely say that some people might just want to go back in time and change the tone of their review (and follow-up review) somewhat. :-) As with all things Xiegu, the G106 is maturing quite nicely as time goes on. I find it a great little SSB and digi mode rig, and according to some YouTube reviews it is competent on CW albeit a bit easy to overload the front-end. I love this little radio, it is the ideal first HF rig for a ham noob like myself. Combined with a small 3Ah LiFePo battery and my KM4ACK EFHW antenna, I can use the radio for hours - the battery lasts longer than me! ? In my experience this is a solid, credible, decently performing radio at a fair price for what it is - a G1M replacement (not a mini G90 as some reviewers seemed to hope for). How are you finding your G106? Any quirks, tips, stories or issues? Please let us know. 73, Jan (M7HNK)

Headphone Jack Adapter
2
Owners will discover, as I did, that the headphone jack is wierdly located on the provided microhone. Saves rig space but what a pain. I find this an inconvenient nusiance. So I made up an adapter from a RJ11 telephone handset corded cable and 3.5mm stereo recepticle from a stereo extension cable. I purchased the handset cable from a local hardware store and found the 3.5mm stereo extension cable in my junk box. I chopped off the ends of the cables leaving enough cable to work with. The yellow cable from the RJ11 will get soldered to the tip and ring wires from the stereo recepticle. The green cable from the RJ11 will get soldered to the sleeve (GND) of the stereo recepticle. This adapter can be used when not using the mic. I don't use a mic as I'm a CW guy. I have attached some pics that might help if you should want to try this. Pete WK8S

G106 Headphone Jack
The headphone jack for the G106 is weirdly located on the provided hand mic. It's not convenient or easy to use as the rubber plug covering the jack cannot be moved completely out of the way. I find this jack to be an inconvenient nusiance. So I created an adapter for standard 3.5mm headset plug. I went to a local hardware store and purchased a telephone handset cable. It has the smaller RJ11 connector. I couldn't find an old telephone to canablize for the cable. I chopped off the end of the cord leaving enough cord to work with. I soldered it to a 3.5mm stereo recepticle using the yellow and green wires of the phone jack to the tip, ring and sleve of the 3.5mm recepticle. Tip and ring to the RJ11 yellow wire. The recepticle sleve to the green wire of the RJ11.
