X-Air Ultralight Aircraft X Air for 5k

There is a Supercat here on the farm strip that has a Hirth 2706 but sadly with a spate of very serious failures, necessitating new cylinders and pistons and a complete replacement of the ignition system. As you say, they take a hit on the net. It is a pity they have not proven more reliable, as the basic design promised some mechanical advantages over the Rotax 582, at least to my way of thinking.

Flying qualities of the X-Air are fine but just remember that it is a high lift high drag design and to get the nose down muyo pronto if the engine fails.

I just joined to get some info on the X air std...A friend has one for sale...and the price seems right...save the high cost of parts for Hirth engines...Jugs are 800 bucks...and the cylinder stud repair? kit is 90 dollars...which seems high for 8 3/8th inch studs...

??? The 2706,fuel injected Hirth is vintage pre 2001 as I learned... and as I said the jug has stripped head bolts which need the conversion kit.. hours on engine in the neighborhood of 160...

?? so...any info on the quality of Hirth engines would be appreciated....I have been around long enough to know that they take a large hit on the net...

?? and? the flying qualities of the plane...any info in that regard? would be appreciated...

?? It will be on Barnstormers soon if I do not move....seems like a no brainer... fix the jug ...fly...sell for 10 k or so...? Registered light sport....Thanks? Herb

?? I notice that some of the 2000 series of engines are now called the 3000 series... 3203 replacing the 2706.. $8400 with all of the goodies.. !!!? Wow!!? Herb
