Speaker hiss
In my previous post I mentioned "the usual slight speaker hiss", but there seems to be little mention of this anywhere (I found it in one review). Is it not a common problem? Mine hisses even when "off" and recharging - that's just annoying - but any additional noise when trying to read a weak signal can't be good. Any known cause or remedy?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI also have this same issue since it was new (Nov. 2020). I haven¡¯t gotten around to it yet but thought I should take a look at the power supply output to see how clean it is. I¡¯m using a PC switching power supply. Not ideal. Something else I think I¡¯ve seen others mention that might be worth trying is an external set of speakers to see if it sounds clean.? If it does, then something like this might be worth trying. For sometime now, I have my X5105 connected to a headless RaspberryPi and use it for FT-8. So, I ended up just installing one of the provided plugs in the speaker jack to cut the noise. That might be an option for you if you want to just cut the noise while it is charging. Would be curious to know what others have tried. Joe K9SZ

Same here , i even purchased a ground loop isolator to see if that would help but nope , to be honest i dont really hear it when i have volume up but i defo noticed it there when i put power off and charging and it is the same on different external speakers , maybe someone has a filter design that could help

I have noticed the same "background hiss" since day one and it seems to be more noticeable with headphones
on. My guess is that it is something inherent to the audio amplifier stage as the filtering and noise reduction don't seem to mitigate it. The audio amp could probably use a low pass filter on the output. Some outboard audio filtering would fix it.? I bought my X5105 as sort of a "beater radio" that I can take on portable outings where I wouldn't be comfortable bringing my much more expensive IC-705 (i.e to the beach). The X5105 works well enough for my intended purpose but it is not without a few "warts".? I have also noticed that at CW speeds above 18 wpm there is sometime a little bit of sidetone lag which is a bit problematic if you use iambic B keying.? Cheers Michael VE3WMB |
