5105 and xiegu xpa125B amplifier

Hello all,
I have a xiegu 5105 with updated firmware and a Xiegu xpa125B amplifier connected through the CE19 from
XIegu.
The amplifier and tuner work but will not give more then 95 watts output. I notice that if I turn up the power of the 5105 to say from 1 watt to 3.5 watts the power
output of the amp doesnt change and will actually change to radios output back to about 1 watt..
Checked the cables and looked for ALC but cant find anything. THis was all on a dummy load.
Thanks

Rob,

I do not have the XPA125 so I am answering from what I have read and seen on YouTube videos. The Smoking Ape did a good one on the XPA125.

The XPA125 seems to not put out full power depending on the band. The lower bands should get to 100 w. Once you get above 20m it does not generate a full 100. Also, when going into a dummy load you can ¡°bypass¡± the tuner. That will make a difference as well.

To be honest, on the receiving end there won't be much difference between say, 75 watts and 100 watts.? I think the real value in this amp is the ability to provide a bit of a kick when the band conditions aren't great or when using a sub-standard antenna and QRP won't cut it.? I just ordered one myself to use with m x5105 as a bring along for when I find I need more than QRP while on site.? I like the X5105 enough that I'm giving up my FT-857D.

Bob,

I am in agreement with you on the difference between 75 & 100 watts. I also agree that an amplifier for a QRP radio should be for getting a little more power when 5 watts is just not enough. I am looking at getting one for my X5105. However I am not looking for more than 50 watts output. Portability and lower amp consumption are what is most important to me for use with a QRP radio.?

Brian -
There are some very interesting, very small amps on AliExpress, available in different levels of completion (as kits, or assembled, with or without case).

I broke down and bought an XPA125B when they went on sales.? Awesome amp - seriously.? Yes, it does seem to knock the x5015 back in wattage to keep power out to around 96 watts, but that doesn't bother me.? Works very very well and the digital wattmeter is useful as well when you take the PA offline.?

Look in this group's "Files" section.? There is a version of the instruction manual there which has much helpful information and details added to the original factory manual.

The original factory manual is available for download from Radioddity (the dealer).
