? ? I'm thinking that it must just be ME, since I don't recall reading it anywhere, but I've long had the impression that Hitler didn't really plan on going into North Africa. (At least not as early as he did. He planned on going EVERYWHERE eventually!) I think that he was going to leave that to the Italians to deal with but was forced to jump in when they were cocking it up. Even when he sent in Rommel, he seemed very reluctant to provide the Field Marshall with the men and equipment he really needed and repeatedly requested to get the job done. Especially, after the Yanks rolled into town.?
? ?One thing that has always blown me away about the N. Africa theater was the amount of total real-estate that these guys were dancing back and forth over. Sure, it was all "Just One Big Ass Desert", but we're talking about an area the size of all of Europe!!! = That's one heck of a HUGE battlefield!!!!! The largest in history at one time????
