While listening to Iain Banks' TRANSITION this week I was totally captivated by one very small side item. = In a nutshell. --- A guy was trying to plug a "How To" movie idea that involved Where and When to Hunt for Aliens. His point was that space traveling Aliens visiting Earth would most likely be a lot like us. WE do most of our long distance traveling purely to enjoy seeing something we can't usually see at home. In short, as Tourists. = And, most likely so to would lifeforms from other star systems or even galaxies. . . . But WHAT would aliens find of unique interest on Earth that they couldn't find on all the billions upon billions of other planets scattered across the universe??? --- Face it, we've really got nothing. Not our landscapes. Not our cultures. Not our history. Not even our most impressive feats of construction. And our pollution, military/government hassles, and crowds of tinfoil hatters have got to be a major turn off!?
The one thing that we do have, and it's about a mega-zillion to one shot that any other planet in the universe ~ might ~ also have . . . is a Total Naturally Occuring Solar Eclipse.
Our Moon and our Sun are precisely the right size and distance from Earth and each other to provide this near once in a lifetime MAJOR lightshow in our heavens. If even ONE of the specs were off by even the smallest of astronomical units, . . . it just could never happen. Too close, too far, too big, too small. = NOTHING!??
How many other planets in the universe could possibly have been blessed with such a VERY unique arrangement??? = DARN FEW! if not, NONE AT ALL!!!
And best of all. With the right bit of timing you can travel around our planet and at different phases of their Solastrial Dance you can witness a Total Eclipse occuring at various points of the globe. it's almost better than Yellowstone's Old Faithful Geyser! (It's actually a thing, it's called Eclipse Chasing. . . . Gotta be safer than chasing tornadoes!!!)? ?

So WHERE do you hunt for aliens???? = Anywhere there is a Total Eclipse occuring on our planet. THAT'S where they'll be. They shouldn't be hard to spot. You know Tourists. They ALWAYS stand out in crowds!!! LOL

Keep It FUN!
