Invitation / request to participate: WY-ARES NVIS Day, May 10, 2025
4
Hello All, Just passing along information on an Em Com operation opportunity. NVIS can be a very useful mode for our kind of territory; paths that are too long or too obstructed with mountains for V/UHF, and too short for traditional HF skip propagation. Wyoming is trying a NVIS day for the first time on May 10. Information on the website linked below. I won't be able to participate due to travel, but if you can, please do! There are many articles and videos about NVIS communications on the net. One I found interesting is: https://hamradiooutsidethebox.ca/2023/06/19/the-nvis-illusion/. Participate if you can; check the details below. 73, -Al WA1TYB Montana ARES SEC Lewis and Clark County EC -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: WY-ARES NVIS Day 2025 Date: Sat, 5 Apr 2025 23:07:22 -0600 From: Wyoming ARES <wyoming.ares@...> To: ki0kn@..., W7PJ@..., WA1TYB@..., k0rpt@..., W0GX@..., kc0myx@..., K7BDP@... Hello neighboring ARES organizations. WY-ARES is trying a new event for us on May 10th; NVIS Day. This is an idea that we borrowed from the Ohio Section and we are going to give it a spin for 2025. Our goals are twofold: get our operators out and active, and gain some added experience with our NVIS setups and maybe try some new ones. Since some of each of your Sections fall within the NVIS range of Wyoming, I would like to invite your ARES groups, or any amateurs, to join in with us on the 10th. You can find the details at: https://shywyarc.net/wp/lc-ares/ This is our first attempt at this event, we are hopeful to have a good turnout, and we welcome suggestions on how to improve the event. Any assistance that you would be willing to provide advertising our event would be greatly appreciated. Club antenna
15
I have a 10, 15, 20 meter beam in my garage that apparently belongs to the club. I need to find someone else willing to store it for the club. I also have a bunch of other ham radio stuff that will need a new home. I'll start out with the 55' crank up tilt over antenna tower and 3 element 10, 15, 20 meter beam. Do not have the tilt over attachment. Would like to get $500. Thank you Wayd WA7YD

Newsletter
10
Hello All, I just wanted to recap some information from the GHRC meeting. Marla Unruh (KM7LIB) is the newsletter editor for the Capital City Amateur Radio Club in Helena. She has kindly offered to take news from our club and put it in the newsletter. Carving out an area/column for GHRC news. What our club has lacked is a Newsletter. This is an amazing opportunity for our club to be involved in a newsletter where our members can report on anything ham related that they are working on or information you would like to share with others in the southwest Montana ham radio community. I have many of your emails and I have made a list from the 2024 members and have given Marla your emails. The March newsletter should be out by the end of this weekend so if you have not received the newsletter in your email and would like to receive the newsletter--please reach out to me so I can get you on the email list. Thank you, Stacy KK7CJV

7QP Contest
Hello All, I thought I would forward information on the 7QP Contest for those who may be interested. For more info: http://7qp.org/new/Page.asp?Content=start Folks- 7QP Contest is in one month. Hoping some of us have the capability of activating some of those rare counties. There are lots of them in MT. Attached is a well done ad done by our fellow contesters in Utah. I figured why re-invent the wheel? Just substitute MT stuff where UT stuff appears, and, you get the idea... Hope to hear y'all on the bands. And don't forget to go on the 7QP website and register your planned operation, whether it be from home or on the road. 73 Tom Hellem K0SN Missoula

Solder Saturday details
20
Hello All, On Saturday March 22, 2025 GHRC will be having a Solder Saturday event from 1-3pm. The event will kick off with a brief tutorial/refresher on how to solder. We have come up with 2 projects our members can build. 1). 4 MHz Offset Attenuator for use with a tape measure antenna for future fox hunts. Cost to build is $15 for the parts. Cost includes small box, circuit board, and parts to solder on the circuit board to complete the project. 2). 4 position Antenna Switch. Cost to build is $66 for the parts. Cost includes box and 20' of control wire. If less control wire is needed, adjustments to cost can be calculated. Control wire is $0.50/foot. Eric does have 4 soldering irons for use but if you have one in your tool chest-bring it. We also have a big magnifier and Eric picked up a couple other magnifiers for use. I would recommend if you have any tools that will help you to build the project-bring it along. Please respond to this email thread to reserve your project build and so I can order enough parts and pieces for both builds. Hope to see you all at Solder Saturday! Thank you, Stacy KK7CJV

Dummy load that I could borrow
5
Does anyone have a dummy load that I could borrow that is greater than 500 watts? I need to do some calibration with my new amplifier and the manual states to do the test connected to a dummy load. The one I have only goes to 300 watts.
