HAM Radio Equipment Insurance
I was just reading the new QST magazine and came across this. The ARRL Ham Radio Equipment Insurance Plan. https://www.arrlinsurance.com/ Page 71 of the May 2024 QST The insurance plan "...covers your radio equipment and all related equipment", including computers, portable gear, cables, handhelds, etc. $50 deductible, make it cheaper than trying to claim it on your home insurance. I didn't know about this, thought I'd share. 73-

Tule Elk Solar Panels
2
#POTA
I went out to Tule Elk Reserve (US-3583) this last Tuesday. Aside from the bands fading in and out all day, I was noticing a lot of what I thought was QRN. As the morning progressed, I was getting more and more hard clicking sounds and intermittent strong cyclic buzzes. Before I left, I walked the dog around the whole complex and noticed what looks like panels on the east side. I just looked it up on google earth - and there ARE solar panels behind the office on the east. There was also some sort of park ranger training going on. People in and out of the office. In fact one of the rangers came over and said hi and gave me a brochure of the reserve. So I'm thinking, maybe during the week they run the solar panels?? Because I never heard any of this noise we went out a couple of weeks ago, on a Sunday afternoon. Just something to consider during the week. 73 -john

W7SUB - Submarine Contact
Don't know how I forgot about this one. On ten meters, at the Pixley Reserve, I made a contact with W7SUB. The USS BLUEBACK (SS-581) is on display to the public at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

Australia POTA Contact Today
3
I was activating K-0204 / Pixley National Wildlife Refuge today and made a 10 meter contact to Hodgleigh Australia. Hodgleigh is a rural locality in the South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the 2016 census Hodgleigh had a population of 137 people. I also had a strong 59 to Puerto Rico, I just couldn't break through the pile up. I tried for 10 minutes, left, then came back to him 30 minutes later and tried again for another 10. No luck, everyone was piling on! Good day today. 73- john KN6FVK
