Re: Fw: TEE SHIRTS THAT SHOULD EXIST (NWC)

That's a neat cafe link. But looking around at
other videos there, I see the Ace Cafe has a lot of stunt riders zooming around
out front. I would imagine the cops like that.

NWC: google earth
开云体育Hi all,
If you have a fast connection, google earth is a
fantastic free program. For those who haven't seen it, it starts off with a view
of the earth from outer space. You can enter a country, state, county or even a
specific address in the search box and you fly right to it. You can tilt, pan,
zoom in, etc.
?
They've recently added a feature where you can
upload pictures or info links (like wikipedia)?of an area. It puts a dot on
the map and when you click on it, the photo or link comes up.
?
I was even able to zero in on my daughter's house
in Essex, England. The bigger cities have more detail. I looked at my former
home in California and could see garbage and recycling cans in the street, so I
could tell the picture was taken on a Wednesday.? ;->
?
20 years ago this would have been?fantasy spy
stuff in the movies.?
?
I'm going to try uploading a picture of Dennis' and
my W at the beach here in Bandon, Oregon.

Still Looking for W Bags
This is an appeal to the group. I am looking for a set of Kawasaki
made W650 saddle bags and the appropriate mounting rack. You can view a picture of these bags in my pictures. Through the kind assistance of Dick Tym, I've found a set in Germany but... the seller, Silverneck in Germany gets about $750 US, plus or minus depending on the exchange rate for the combo. This is bit spicy for my budget. Does anyone know of another source in any country that will ship to the US (without the price of an upper and lower limb)? Are there any large shops that might have one sitting in the storeroom? Are there any places that deal in used or discontinued items in your area? Thanks, Willyboy |

开云体育Hi Gene,
?
Just downloaded google earth, man is this going to
keep me quiet for a while.
?
The oblong thing near the river mouth is the local
stock car track.
?
Our weather on the coast is mild, not that cold in
winter (but we still get the odd frost).
You don't have to go that far inland to get regular
frosts and snow though.
Summer is mild as well with average temperatures
from high teens to mid twenties?degrees celcius.
Definately not motorbike wearther today though, we
have a reputation for it being wet.
When it rains it can really pour down, mostly at
night though ;o)

Re: The best day off.
开云体育Wow. I just looked at google earth and I could see
your house too.? ;->
?
Interesting, Greymouth, NZ?and Bandon, Oregon
are very similar. Look at the Google earth view and you'll see we are on a river that empties into the ocean too.?
Right about where you have that big oblong thing
(what the heck is that anyway?) at the mouth of the river, we have a
lighthouse.
It looks like we are both about the same distance
from the equator. I wonder if the weather is similar? Ours is mild with a
temperature average around 40F - 60F all year. Being on the coast?we get
some big storms in the winter, though.
?
Google earth is getting pretty interesting with all
the pictures and links put right on the map. I just spent some time looking at
the sights. It's certainly a beautiful place "down" there. Very intense
green.

Re: thoughts on a loud snapping sound when starting the engine
开云体育Ah, Dennis, I think you may have provided the most
telling evidence of all. If the W650 no longer does the snapping thing, it means
you've run out of snaps and should contact the dealer to have more installed,
because you've run out of the factory?provided snaps.

Re: And then there were two
Ok, Pete, when I strike it rich (looks like it's going to have to be
a big lottery win) I'll fly you and the Versys across the big pond. I'll also offer to bring Pete Cordell up with his Tiger and Ray Ford with his Wee-Strom. I'll bring my W along and we'll tour the Cabot Trail in the Cape Breton Highlands (eastern Canada). That way I'll be able to do a hands-on comparison of the four bikes that currently most interest me. My apologies for having difficulty distinguishing two different people with the same first name. For some of us, each new day brings unexpected challenges... Interesting comment you make re the Versys' revvy nature and potential suitability for dirt roads. I would probably need to quit my job and spend the next seven years trying to figure out how to fit a W650 engine in a Versys frame. The end result would likely entail a substantial amount of duct tape. :-) I took a ride late this afternoon to my favourite ice cream stand, which is a short ferry crossing and a 45 minute ride from home (ok, it's not the closest, but offers a nicer run). Could have used the heated grips and hand guards on Ray's V-Strom, as I had a couple of fingers starting to numb on my return trip. Summers are much too short up in these parts. Charles ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ --- In W650riders@..., "petetibble" <petetibble@...> wrote: Best thing will be if you fly me and my bike over to New England from Old England, then you can give it a good tryout on roads you know. Can't say fairer than that! I have to say that my initial feelings are that the Versys would be highly unsuited to dirt roads due to it's rather revvy nature. I think what you need is a W650 engine in a Versys frame. That's a little job for the weekend.... Pete |

Re: Holes in left side air box?
开云体育May not make a noticeable difference in running. The W is very
forgiving in the way the carbs are set up. I wouldn't think it would be counter
productive.

Re: Trail rear tyres (like Triumph Scrambler) retaining handling (or 17" rim?)
How about a Pirelli MT 90 Scorpion A/T (4.10 -18 M/C 60R)?

Hi Folks A long shot, but I could do with some advice! Having bought my W on 7yr old Kaccolade tyres, and cutting down mudgd etc for a more Scrambler look, I fitted Trail Wing tyres: on the front, the same one as the new Bonnie Scrambler, but limited choice at the back due to 18" rim. Chose a TW 302 (130/80 18MC 66S rated). Looks brilliant - very very knobbly indeed! Spent last summer playing in Germany, Cz, Slovalia, Poland, Netherlands, and also at home in Scotland. Handling great compared to knackered OE tyres. But I've been cautious with big leans, and think it could poss be better. I'd like a more road oriented tyre, but keep a trailie look if I can (eg sort of thing fitted to BMW trailies). But 18" is a struggle. Only options appear to be TW 302 as present, or Michelin T63 (P rated, 93mph). The T63 looks very knobbly too. Anyone got any experience? If I keep the W for a while (and I've sold my T140, so I prob will), I'm thinking of getting the wheel rebuilt with a 17" rim...lots of tyre choice then! Or is that a bit extreme? Re: Holes in left side air box?
Dennis,
The holes are probably on the right side as well, I just haven't checked yet. Could this "better breathing" be counter productive for the stock mufflers? I think the holes were drilled because the previous owner was using after market mufflers. .--- In W650riders@..., "Dennis J. Guggemos" <djguggms@...> wrote: both left and right sides, two 1" holes each side being popular. This was done instead of removing the snorkel from inside the airbox. Strange that you only found them on the left, unless it was an effort to balance out the two sides. Never heard of that one before.

decreased. Happened a lot when it was new.

开云体育Sometimes in an effort to get better breathing holes were
drilled in both left and right sides, two 1" holes each side being popular. This
was done instead of removing the snorkel from inside the airbox. Strange that
you only found them on the left, unless it was an effort to balance out the two
sides. Never heard of that one before.

The link shows a map of where I went,?use the
arrows to move arround, go left till you hit the coast.
I live in Greymouth, I?went south to Kumara
Junction then inland and followed the road marked 73 to
Arthurs Pass and then on a bit to the Bealey Spur
marked on the map. Coming home I turned off
at Jacksons and came back around Lake

I just had a play with the map, the satellite view
and zoom is really cool. I found my house.

The highest mountain in the southern alps is Mount

It is spring here, ?so hope to get in some
